In case you are wondering why somebody like myself isn't quick to defend and praise Mike Ashley in a) financial investment in buying our club and b) has this transfer and financial policy he has undertook, then it has something to do with this:

NUFC is in a much better financial state, we know this, but it couldn't get much worse could it? Given the fact we basically were taken over in a Billionaire sugar-daddy takeover....what the club has gone though in the last 5 years is a total shambles.

The man can afford to do what ever he wished with this club. Anything. He is minted to an unbelievable amount.

If I had his money....we would be Champions League contenders after 5 f*cking years. Just saying.

NEWCASTLE UNITED owner Mike Ashley is the 491st richest person in the world, according to Forbes.

The Sports Direct chief rose more than 150 places in the American magazine's list of billionaires.

His net worth is estimated by the magazine at $2.5 billion.Its entry claims that Ashley added $140 million to his fortune last year when Sports Direct bought 32 stores he was leasing.

He was the 15th richest UK resident on the list. Richard Branson, whose Virgin Money is also based in Newcastle, ranked 255th on the world list.

The 61-year-old tycoon has a net worth of $4.2 billion, according to the magazine.

Forbes mentioned his deal to buy Northern Rock in an entry which placed him 4th in the UK.

Mexican tycoon Carlos Slim topped the overall list, with an estimated worth of $69 billion.

You assume you need to throw ridiculous money at a team rather than intelligent moeny to add what was already a decent enough team.

Yes he bought us, but it's a business to him and his business model has us in the top six of the premier league, with distinctly average players surrounded by some class ones. If he keeps up with this model and keeps buying class players for decent prices god knows what could happen.

Like I said, he is a billionaire and will want to remain that way for his families sake, we could land ourselves in serious trouble if money starts getting thrown around.

Aye we went down, and yes it was his stupid decisions that helped that, but he did his bit in my opinion, he kept around 5-6 players on over 60k a week in the championship! I can certainly say most of that would have came out of his pockets.

His business model has worked and is working, aye, his footballing decisions humiliated us, but Christ, if I get to watch my team in Europe next season, whilst sipping a pint on foreign soil wearing my black and white stripes once again, I doubt I will give a ****!

$2.5billion does not mean $2.5billion in cash sitting in the bank you helmet. It means overall assets, such as land ownership, property ownership and the value of his business. He could have a fraction of that total amount sitting there in available cash, and if that is the case, then you would be asking Ashley to spend vast chunks of his available money, in which he would quite rightly tell you to piss off.

He's running the club as a business, and in doing so we're 6th in the league and improving, ahead of Liverpool with richer owners and a stupid outlay in the last year. Throwing money at a club doesn't always buy success, Chelsea are struggling to qualify for the Champions League with an owner far higher than the 491st richest man, and the way that we are run safeguards the club under Ashley and ensures that when he does sell up he's selling an attractive proposition with realistic possibilities of return. Chelsea, Man City etc can only pray that an even richer sugar daddy will come in when their current ones get bored, otherwise they're buggered.

Nobody asked him to buy our club, he chose to. So therefore its his responsibility as the one and sole owner to invest in it. Who are we to demand he spends his money, how about the Newcastle Utd fans. We own this club, not him.

What's also being missed is when you buy a player, its an asset. Man City have spent shedloads on their team. When it comes to selling those players on, they wont take that much of a financial hit. How much could they get for David Silva now? They'd make money.

I like my club being intelligent in the signings we are making. On the whole that is. Their is defo room for an experienced defender or 2 to help us out. I dont want to be like Citeh or Chelsea. They have lost their soul.............it's just we lost our dignity. Just look at them f*cking signs in our stadium!

He ran that business almost into the ground. You could say he turned that business around to a stable position. He can now afford to invest in it, which in turn brings more income in. Assuming he doesn't go and buy Torres for £50mil.....

We all know what has gone on and where we are now and so on...all I am saying is, hold back on the back tapping. It should have been so much better at this point, 5 years on.

Come on. The only way a signing is a saleable asset is if you do it the way Ashley is, young and with potential to improve. David Silva is one of the few post takeover Man City signings that might make a decent profit (ignoring the little issue of wages) if they sell him on in the next few years.

Once again your assuming I wanted Mike to spend over £200mil on players like Chelsea and Citeh......this is not true.

You also seem ignorant of the fact that Mike Ashley has a Net profit that stands at £30mil made on transfers in his 5 years.
