Indeed. Simplicity will not only make it easier for new members to join in, but also easier for those who will be running and maintaining the sweepstakes!

I quite like the look of Bando's point scoring system as people (including me) were often disappointed that they got zero points round after round, but that's the only suggestion I'd make to change the sweepstakes. As Red Bull has shown us time and again, continuity is the key to success, and the great appeal of the sweepstakes was in its simplicity. I fear bonus points would make it too complicated, especially for possible newcomers.El Bando said:x Practice Qualyfying Race

I was also going to suggest every driver being available twice!
This would facilitate 48 participants before the need for teams (which, although successful, made it rather more complicated). Teams could remain but equally, with duplicate drivers, there may well be no need for them. But please read on…
One of the real benefits of this random but fun game was that it encouraged participants to get their number in early. This was a benefit for the forum in general, since it encouraged people to visit sooner than they might otherwise have done; and of course, many people would visit and comment in other threads too. In order to encourage people to continue to get their early number bid in - even with up to 48 slots - how about the first 24 being twice the value of any duplicated drivers? All it would need would be to log numbers as 6 as usual for the first to get it and 6b for the latecomer, who will be scoring half points if successful.
This should be relatively simple to tack on to existing rules (together with any revision of the basic points system); and equally importantly, it should encourage a clamour to the forum for those hoping for more points.
- - - o0o - - -I will not be offended if someone thinks this is bonkers. It's just a suggestion and of course, like any, will need the approval and full backing of Genji and Ninja (or anyone else who runs it).
I think that could work quite well.
I do too. I like it in combination with Bando's points system because the latecomers would then get half points, as if it was an abandoned race, and there'd be just half a point in it here and there.
So the first 24 forum members in would pick numbers 1-24, the latecomers pick 1b-24b.
What I also liked about last year what some of the ways the driver reveal process was done. Some of them were real brain teasers.
In my opinion that was probably the most important aspect of its success and showed a forum community really working well for each other's entertainment. It just depends on the availability and ingenuity of the mods, Miggins, DHC, et al. who all contributed. I think Ninja Kirby and I definitely had the easier job.
Is anybody at all interested in trading drivers or shall we just jib that?
Actually, I think that's a brilliant idea Westy! It could make poker players of us with all sorts of negotiation and bluffing; and would require no extra work from those good souls running it. All that would be needed would be a deadline.I always thought that the driver swaps would be a lot more interesting if you didn't know who you were swapping for. You could let everyone know which driver they had via a PM and then members could agree to swap on the basis of it still being risky. Then, once a deadline had passed all the drivers could be made public.
I didn't suggest it though because it would make the very fun 'driver reveals' unnecessary.

However, wouldn't this nullify the 'reveal' process that seems popular with quite a few people? If your idea were to be adopted, wouldn't it require that each player be informed of who they have privately? Actually, the more I think of it, the more it sounds like a lot of extra work for organisers…
Still, I like the concept.
But - thinking out loud as I write - I just can't see it working if the popular reveal process is retained. Any ideas how the conflict can be avoided or have I missed something obvious? (Very likely at the moment!).
Yeah.Indeed Cosi, in the last sentence in my previous post I expressed a similar sentiment. Still, could be a laugh for maybe one or two GP's in the year.

Ah, too right. Fixed nowAlso, the duplicate drivers for latecomers only score half points.
Might as well use this thread for discussions on how to run it or change it, too, rather than bog down the actual race sweepstakes threads.
