Sunderland Afc Keroche updated his status: "COMING SOON!!! We will soon be opening a new picture albulm, which will show the individual pictures of every squad member, and their sponsors for the forthcoming 2012-13 season. This will be done as soon as the last 4 members of the squad have been sponsored. We will also open another albulm, where you can view the story of Sunderland Afc Keroche, from how and when the team was formed 4 years ago, and how they have struggled to survive, but every story has a silver lining, and with the help and generousity of Sunderland fans from around the world, the team will for the first time in the new 2012-13 season, be sponsored and kitted out in exactly the same strip, for all team members, infact they will now have 3 full first team kits to choose from. They will now also have the money required to fully run the team and the youngsters academys, for the next few years. This is all down to the overwhelming generousity of the Sunderland supporting fans and companies. To each and everyone of you who have donated, or contributed in anyway, no matter how large or small, The team would like to say a "HUGE THANK YOU" to each and everyone of you. We are always still looking for donations or sponsorship, as this is a long term project, so that we can secure the long term future of the club, and help to spread the good name of Sunderland AFC throughout the whole of Kenya. But most of all to give these kids an opportunity in life, and put a smile on their faces. Anyone in the UK who would like to make a donation, can contact Gary on 07880732078.".

Did anyone see a short BBC film during the World Cup last year? When it was dangerous - probably lethal - for any white man to show his face in Soweto during the apartheid period, Stanley Matthews gave football lessons there. There was an old man interviewed. He'd been one of the kids who'd attended one of the courses. He said : "Oooh, he was like Jesus to us. It wasn't just that a white man would come and teach us football, but THAT white man! It not only gave us hope in football, but in life". They called Matthews 'the black man with the white face' and he could walk anywhere in Soweto safely.

At the end, Gary Lineker said : "A great player, and a great man". Shearer and Hansen both dropped their eyes to the floor and neither answered. It was appropriate.

When you're little and having a hard time, it's just that somebody out there gives a damn for you. That matters so very, very much. You can hang onto that. Thanks for telling us this, Roger. it was very good to hear.
 
I have worked in Kenya and it is an amazing country, one of the most interesting places I have ever been. The youngsters there are so eager to learn. I was working on a project where a lorry of computers with a satellite Internet connection would tour primary schools and give the pupils an hour a week to learn IT skills. There are some very smart people in Kenya and they were incredibly hard and are incredibly welcoming. Premiership football is massive of there too. All the major games are shown in bars throughout Nairobi, you mainly see Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal shirts but of course Chelsea and Man City are becoming more popular too. They had heard of Sunderland but I did not see many supports while I was out there.

This sounds like a great project, I wish it every success.
 
THAT WAS THEN VAGAS, now 300 strips have been sent to-date,thanks to donations from Facebook and here, the whole village can have a top now, and im going to post pics of the team, there are only 4 players left to sponsor, its 50 quid for the season, if anyone has a 50 he or she would like to give to a good cause contact Gary a Sunderland fanatic from Seaham, who took over the distribution and god bless him came up trumps, If anyone can spare five minutes plase have a look at Sunderland asfc Keroche on Facebook thanks lads for your support.
 
My dad was posted over there back in the 50's when the Mau Mau trouble was on.

He talked of the Masi & Kukuyu people a lot.
 
My dad loved his time in Nairobi & Mombassa. Whished I could have gone over with him before he died.
