Don't complain about it with me. Complain about it to Lambert, he's the one applying the tactic. It worked well for Jackson yesterday didn't it?
I don't know where you were sitting, but Jackson played mostly down the middle or on the righthand side, the first goal came from his cross!! I'm not complaining at you, I just see it differently. ILD OTBC
Yeah, the right hand side, just like Morison has been! Fair enough, but it works and we are doing well so it shouldn't matter!
jackson was outstanding throughout. i think he played a free role but wonky is right - people moan about morison drifting out wide, then that is exactly what jackson is being praised for! jackson dragged players left, right and centre and surman and pilkington reaped the rewards. surman has been brilliant since the wolves away game. he was a player who i thought has always looked classy but he struggled initially. now he is one of the first names on the team sheet. its great that jackson has stepped up to the plate too. with jackson, holt, morison and (hopefully) vaughan we have four very good, capable strikers who can push each other for the rest of the season.
I just loved Pilkingtons movement for the second goal. After he passed to Martin he didn't stop running and that's what got him the goal. Jacksons drifting out wide got us the first goal. Also Morison has got us Agee goals by drifting out wide.
pilkington playing on the right gives us yet another dimension to our play. it allows him to cut inside and drag full backs inside with him, it means he has more opportunities in front of goal, it means jackson, or whoever it may be, can swap positions and stretch teams... so many options - its fantastic!
Agree with the Pilks comment, Supers. His flexibility and mobility are great assets for any team to have at their disposal I'm sure I recall when either we first approached or eventually signed Elliott Bennett, he said that he'd played centre mid and also deputised at right back for Brighton. I'd imagine this is what makes Lambert go in for players, knowing that in a crisis, they'll have more than one string to their bow, and can contribute in more than one way to the overall team effort. Saturday was the classic example of this.
Following on from the above, I must admit that it flashed through my mind on Saturday as Zak limped off "maybe he'll bring on Morison to play alongside Jackson and drop Holt to emergency centre half ?" Lambert clearly knows and trusts his squad a hell of a lot better than I do
As has already been said. What makes all this better is the fact that we can get a clean sheet with three full-backs and a right winger and Pardew moans about it when they have four full-backs. Just getting on with it motivates the squad a lot better and all of the back four, especially Bennett must feel great after the performance they put in.
Morison automatically goes to the LEFT! Doesn't get crosses in, doesn't control the ball. Jackson covered all the base's and was brilliant! Sorry guys but I won't be convinced that Morison can effectively play on the left wing. He's a goal poacher and should be in the box for crosses etc. I'm not saying he's a bad player, just that his best position is in the middle not on the wing. ILD OTBC
It was also good that Wes had a better game after his awful game against Sunderland. In fact I was pleasantly shocked in the way we fairly well dominated midfield from start to finish. I think and hope it was because we were just better than them. However, I do have a sense that Bolton came for a 0-0 didn't play like a team that had won 3 and drawn 1 of their last 4. But considering they played 5 to our 4 in the middle and we didn't play a defensive midfielder either, I thought they were anonymous.
without wishing to begin another argument with you ILD, you show a startling naivity towards how morison plays the game and what he is asked to do. you weren't per chance the guy in the city stand on saturday who lambert apparently told to '**** off' for always moaning were you?
i thought bolton were poor all over the park. i'd say they were the weakest team to have visited carrow road this season. they just seemed a bit lightweight all over the park and you are correct when you say our midfield totally dominated. it is strange seeing as they were on a very good run and had had some very good results of late. not that i'm complaining that they were poor, i just expected them to offer more than they did!
No it wasn't me Superman, if he HAD told me to '**** off' I would have told him the same! I pay for my seat and am entitled to my opinion, without being rude or swearing. As to being naive, I have exactly the same opinion of people who think Morison's best position is on the wing! ILD OTBC
He isn't actually playing on the wing all the time. Also, I must point to the goal we scored against Wigan, crossed in by Morison. How about the second against West Brom in the Premier League, crossed in from out wide by Holt to Morison in the centre. No complaining about Jackson or Holt going wide.
nobody is or has ever suggested morison is a winger or should be playing on the wing, but to say he should stay in the middle and wait for the ball to come to him and shouldn't run the channels is a statement made by somebody who doesn't understand what they are watching i'm afraid. its basic forward-play and morison is very good at it, as is holt. wonky, totally correct
I know it's all about opinions, but I can't believe that some of these comments are being touted when we're sitting 12 points ahead of the 18th placed side. If we were 12 points adrift then maybe some criticism would be appropriate. Morison has 9 goals, which does suggest apart from running the channels (dragging the opposing back four out of position as he does so) he gets into and profits from goalscoring positions, too
My god Superman, (the term seems appropriate) How arrogant is this.? I don't understand what I'm watching!!! Jesus christ, just because I don't agree with you, you start chucking insults about. This is the exact reason I hated the old 606, certain people seem to think they own the right to be above everyone else, and only their opinions matter. You my friend are in that catagory. If we can't have different opinions without making it a personal attack then it's just not worth the bother. ILD OTBC
