2 weeks ago I was playing in goal and got a double fracture of my little finger. 1 week later, against advice, I was back playing but on pitch to protect my finger and I managed to rupture the ligaments in my foot and I'm now on crutches!!

Just wondered what horrific/ comedy/ bad luck have any of you had in terms of injuries, football related or not?

Poor lad. That's pretty unlucky. I wish you well in your recovery.

A friend of mine got his studs stuck in a drain just off the side of the pitch as he ran down the line with the ball. He had a nasty knee injury that kept him out for 2 years.

I've twisted my ankles more times than I can remember on the pitch. Pulled off the socks and shinpads after the game to see my ankle looking like a giant purple balloon.

When I was helping to run a youth team years ago on a very cold day. There was a bad injury to one of the opposition players that necessitated an ambulance. While we waiting we tried to keep warm by doing exercises and I was kicking the ball to the goalkeeper trying to keep him warm. unfortunately I slipped as I kicked the ball and it went to the keepers right at a fair rate of speed. He tried to catch it but only parried it and dislocated his thumb. His mate come running over to see what happened and slipped up and badly twisted his ankle.. All three ended up in hospital same ambulance.....not funny at the time but we did laugh afterwards.

It's funny you should say about twisted ankles because when I told my Dad I'd ruptured my ligaments he said "in my day boy it was called a twisted ankle, stop moaning"!

    Nasty drain accident! #claims4u haha

The funny thing is - he did try to claim and it was all over the local papers at the time....judge kicked it out for him being dishonest or something. Cost him thousands!

I cracked a rib playing 5-a-side once, somebody's shoulder hit me under the arm.

The most embarrassing injury I ever had was when someone demonstrated that he could poke his little finger through a beer mat. I had a go, and snapped the tendon in my finger. I had to wear a plastic splint for 6 weeks and fortunately it healed completely, but you can imagine what I went through every time someone asked me how I'd done it!

In trying to control the ball one time I managed to step on it but at the same time put all my weight on it, so started to fall over. I managed to put my other foot back down so as to stop myself falling, but right in a puddle. As I was only wearing trainers, not boots, that foot slipped as well, and as I feel over I put my left arm out to catch myself, but in dong so I had my hand facing the wrong way round and broke my wrist. Oops!

Fractured my leg playing football, was out for about 18 months, still not really better now, 3 years on though!

Thing is, it wasn't a dodgy tackle or 50-50 ball or anything, I had the ball in tonnes of space on the right flank, went to cross it, and my leg just went. Nobody was within about 10 feet of me...I must have looked like a right moron! <doh>

Saintsbirdsnest, if you were treated properly (like professional sportsmen are) you would make a better recovery. Usually, ordinary folk have to wait so long for treatment it's too late. Stroke patients don't receive a fraction of the physiotherapy they need or would receive abroad. Rant over.

Loads of footy injuries over the years, lots of ankle sprains, broken nose 3 times, but the one that ended my "career" was snapped anterior cruciate ligaments, which was a complete accident as i slid to stop a pass from going out for a throw in,and my studs dug into the pitch and my whole body twisted around but my knee stayed still. Had the operation, but never played again.
One funny story i had was i had to play a match against my girlfriends brothers team years ago. There was plenty of banter between us during the run up to the game, and being as he was a skillful midfielder, and i was a burly centre half,i warned him i was going to "take him out".
All of my girlfriends family turned up to watch the match, and we were winning when the ball fell to my brother in law and as he lined to take a shot,i managed to just reach out and take the ball away from him. Unfortunately his leg carried on through with taking the shot, and he kicked the bottom of my boot at full pelt with his shin.
There was a loud bang and his leg snapped like a twig. I felt awful, but it was a complete accident, though the "inlaws" were obviously none too pleased with me.
