Blackburn have cancelled his contract and he's set to sign for Spurs on a free. It says he's only played once since April, but if he's being signed by Spurs he must be almost ready to play - they wouldn't take the risk of another King / Woodgate surely.

Given our lack of CB cover, a free transfer for Nelsen on a six month deal would've been ideal. He's 34 now, but on a short deal it wouldn't matter. In summer Saylor will be back, we'll have Colo and Wilo and hopefully sign a young CB and we'll be all set in that position.

In my opinion, it wouldn't have been a bad signing. But then again, we could have another disaster like the Stephen Ireland loan deal last January. Tough call.

Thoughts?

Think Harry is looking for someone who is happy to be cover and maybe able to do a job id required. Personally I don't think so.

That's what we're after too.

I thought this earlier. Surely there is other players out there still available on a free that could come in and do a job until the summer??

Not sure about CB's? Unless someone else is released.

I know that but Nelsen is rubbish, I'd rather have signed Mariappa.

Think he'd have been good enough for cover if played alongside Colo. To slow to play with Wilo though.

He's strong in the air, so he'd be better than Perch at CB. And very experienced.

Not seen enough of Mariappa to be honest.

This! Tbh nelsen is so injury prone all we'd've done is ended up footing medical bills for a month. Doubt his wages would be that low either. Would rather have picked up someone younger who can grow into a role

Wasn't he supposed to sign for West Ham a few years back, but he went to Blackburn when they offered him stupid money per week?

Presume 'Arry has offered him stupid money (tax free, nudge nudge) and Blackburn were happy to save his wages.

I honestly didnt know who Ryan Nelsen was until I wiki'd him - assumed it was some young kid with a bright future. I think this is a bit like when they tried to sign Phil Neville last year, more for his character than ability as they need leaders who can keep spirits high and all that as they (attempt) to challenge for the title. The fact he is man for man replacing Bassong is odd.
