Celtic - Middling Club
Saints - Big Diddy Club
Celtic - Diddy Team
Saints - Gert Big Would Gub Celtic Right Now Team <ok>

ps Also to all those do gooders (****wit in one case) who do not like the chain yanking banter with our Scottish cousins, this is a football forum, I suggest you go and sign up to the Salvation Army forum or find another thread to be 'nice' on. <ok>

What EPL sides were interested in him?

Don't even know why I'm replying to this thread its a nothing story.

He was 26 (maybe 27?) and the highest scorer in SPL history, he followed your quick guide to success by winning medals and playing European football and that got him 6 goals in 27 games for Boro (who also pawned a bunch of dregs from your team). I'm sure I heard of lower Prem sides being interested in him (and with his Rangers scoring record why wouldn't they be?!)

I never said that, you were saying nobody would have heard of Southampton, well Xavi obviously has at least!

<laugh>

Xavi is a professional footballer. I'd fully expect him to have at least a decent general knowledge of European football teams.

I was referring to your average Joe football fan across the European Continent. Most of them will never have heard of Southampton, because they are a diddy team in the mode of Barnsley or Bradford.

If I remember correctly, some of the Dutch media claimed a number of the great Holland team containing Johan Cruyff, etc were his idols - think it's a case of whatever country you're in you feel compelled to tell them 'your policemen are wonderful' .......and all that...!

Your memory against a quoted interview.... Come on, you know all decent modern skilful players based themselves on Matt Le Tiss. I know I did.... I've mastered the belly and now I'm working hard on my first touch!

Players we signed did not sign for money, if that was the case they would have gone elsewhere because we don't exactly pay massive salries, they joined to win things whichthey have a far better chance of doing at Celtic than some mid table club in the EPL.

Does anybody really join a SPL club from abroad to win the SPL or the Scottish cup? Ambition!

Ask most Celtic fans what they thought of Boyd and his "Record" and they will echo my sentiments, an average player who got lucky in the SPL and was promptly found out when he went to pastures new.

A greedy bastard as well as a surly one.

And yo-yoing between 3 or 4 English divisions is the height of ambition?

Southampton Fans: Deluded AND hilarious.

Erm you're deluded if you honestly believe that! Yo-yoing is West Brom. We went down (blame the owners) and now we're going back up (thank the owners), hardly bouncing between leagues every season. We may well start doing that if we get promoted this season, but to call us a yo-yo team at the moment is making stuff up to strengthen your "argument".

Yeah he needed that prestigious UAE Pro-League medal! Oh wait no it's literally just because he quadrupled his salary.

You've named one player who left the EPL because of money, if I had the time or the inclination I could list hundreds who travelled in the opposite direction solely for money. The EPL is the only league in the world where an average pro can make £50k a week. The UAE tend to have one or two "star" players who receive mad wages, in the EPL mad wages are the norm.

We won a JPT. That's worth about two Scottish cups tbh.

You keep believing that. I always have to laugh at no-mark fans of irrelevant English teams bumming up their league.

The fact is; The success in the EPL is down to Liverpool, Chelsea, Man Utd & Arsenal. The rest are just filler.

Even Tottenham and Man City have nothing to do with it.

Make all the slants about his play you will - he outscored every other SPL player for years. Sure he was lazy, greedy and nothing more than a glorified poacher but he certainly did win medals and play European football, and his game suffered because he was too familiar with playing against the St Mirren defence where they'd happily give him six feet of space in the box. If he'd have grown up playing in a different league it may well have been different. On the other hand he may have just been **** all along, who knows.
