What is it with some fans, you can't expect us to win 5-0 every game, the league we are in is one of the most difficult to get out of, if a player crops up and scores 2 goals which wins us the game, he is a match winner, maybe not MoM, today Schneiderlin was for me, however Guly's link up play and sheer class is top draw, yes sometimes he goes missing during games, but he has been one of the standout performers this season for me. We won 2-0 against a good side, stayed top and are playing some of the best football the south coast has seen in years, stop moaning.
Indeed. It's that British attitude striking again which suggests that, because you're being watched, you have to keep busy - to keep running around 100% of the time. Well it isn't necessary. The intelligent player knows when to run and when to conserve energy. Guly is playing as a striker. He can do midfield and wing play too, and rotates around that part of the field, but he defends like a striker too. When he tackles, which isn't often, it's chancy whether he'd be better off not bothering. Back when Brett Ormerod used to play for Saints, several Saints fans used to think he was worth more to the team than either Beattie or Phillips. In response, I wrote a little scenario, something like this... The scene, a match at St Marys, after Kevin Phillips has been newly signed, midway through the first half: Beatts: Look at Bretty, the fans bloody love him Phillips: They love you too Beatts: Not as much as him Phillips: Well they don't seem to be too keen on me Beatts: Well you don't run around so much Phillips: I'll give you that. He gets through some work. Hallo, corner..! Beatts: Yep, better get into position Action... Saints score 1-0 Beatts: Great goal Kev..! Phillips: Thanks mate. Hey, what's that the supporters are singing..? Beatts: What..? Oh that. It's... We've got Brett Ormerod, we've got Brett Ormerod... Phillips: But I've just scored..? Beatts: And I provided the assist. Phillips: So why are they singing his name..? Beatts: I told you, he runs around a lot.
Right from the start of the game today the fans were on his back. Shame really because his goals should have put some in their place, clearly not.
Guly at home match winner ......Guly away a complete liability. I have been to every home game this season and yes he is maddening at times but he has that something which wins matches as proved by todays game. Yes the two headers were sitters but you have to get in those positions for them to be sitters. However away from home and I have been to most away games he just goes missing and appears to lack confidence. The last four/five away games Saints have played he has been truly awful couldnt trap a bag of cement win a header or pass a ball five yards. Play him at home all the time and on the bench away from home to make an impact. Having said that he keeps getting games every week which means there is something about the lad Adkins likes and trusts and we just have to trust that judgement and let the manager manage the team that he has got sat at the top of the table despite how we all feel about certain players.
I absolutely bloody despair of our fans sometimes. I often wonder just how many of them have actually played football. After last weeks game and the flack he received I said take time out during today's game to watch this guy when he isn't on the ball and see just how much work he does. Guly is absolutely NOT a lazy player he covers every blade of grass on the pitch and he creates space as well as having some good touches. He is a brazilian footballer and what you won't get from him is the aggresion, blood and guts football and fifty fifty tackles that some would like to see. I had some sympathy for him last week as coming from a civilised country I don't think he had seen anything like that in his life and he was stuggling to come to terms with it. I do agree Morgan was man of the Match today but I pencil him as MotM every week even before the game has started even if he is not playing. De Ridder was exciting today and the changed formation is what we many of us were saying we needed. But that still leaves us with today's hero Guly for finding the space and time in a packed defence against big strong defenders to score two very good goals. Now just get of the guy's back will you.
Oh for goodness sake. I was one of many slagging Guly off after the Pompey match but he still deserves a starting spot. He has 10 goals this season, 9 in the league, 2nd top scorer. He can be frustrating at times but he's improved drastically under Adkins.
He is inconsistent but fans should start to accept that is what you're going to get with him. Some fans will like him, some fans won't but however frustrating he can be, nobody can deny he is a match winner. He's a bit like what Adel Taarabt was for QPR last season and I think he's one of the first names on the teamsheet.
Guly scored twice and had a good game, no pleasing some people. It's true that he is erratic, but 10 goals and 7 assists says a lot. I noticed he dropped the flourescent boots for this one. Flourescent boots scream out "I'm skillful and I know it".
Sorry St Godders, I wasn't trying to flirt with you there, even if I did agree with you. Damn smart phone keypads.
He tries things others don't see. They come off he's a hero, they don't he's chastised. Most saints fans are complete and utter morons that struggle to speak, the ones around my season ticket are truely horrible people. They constantly berate Guly but want a go on his cock when he scores or comes out with a piece of brilliance. Today he scored 2 goals, his link up play was good, he tracked back well and helped out midfield and made some great passes and runs. All round he had a good game, second half he wasn't so good, but he popped up with the goods. People saying he doesn't do much, can you remember a certain Gregorz Rasiak that saints fans bummed yet was by far the laziest footballer I have ever seen in a saints shirt.
Agreed, although I think it's a little too much to say... most Saints supporters. It's a supporters lot to overreact. Also, it's easy to jump on a moaning or cheering bandwagon, and football supporters are well practised at it.
No, Southampton itself is full of mongs, just walk through the high street.... Glad to have moved away.
