He got the two goals today but what else did he do? I have seen on the match thread for today that someone said that people who slagged him off last week (me included) must be feeling stupid now. My answer to this is..... ..... No not really. he got 2 headers (which were sitters) which he converted well, but what else did he manage to do in the game. Nothing much. My MOTM would go to Morgan for his passing. it was a joy to behold. he switched the play soooo well. Guly still has a long way to go, before i forgive him.
Guly regardless of his goals is too inconsistant and lazy.. and the better chaplow and connolly are back and fully fit the better!
He is very very very inconsistent, as shown today - but the fact is he had a good game as he scored our two goals
I dont class his goals as sitters to be honest. he got himself into the correct positions. People at the game say that he is lazy however he can't just run around the whole match, he got the goals and we won the match so end of.
He did more than just score two goals. But even if he didn't, and his two goals were the only thing he did, why exactly are you complaining? God, how dreadful that a player scores both of your goals. Drop them immediately, how dare they do nothing but put the ball in the net, how dare they do the one thing that you need to win a football match.
Guly was fine, and of course the match winner. I also liked his two blocks in defence after he had already scored two goals. Frankly I find the Guly witch hunt utterly ridiculous. If he was consistently crap I'd maybe understand, but he clearly isn't and does his job, in that he scores and helps to link up play. I was at the game.
At home Guly is class, as the away team plays a more defensive role. Giving him more time on the ball. His home form is good. But away from home were teams play the way the want to against us he doesn't get the time he wants. So drifts out the game completly. Away from home I wouldn't start him but he would still be in the squad.
Sometimes Saints fans are embarrassing. Guly is an inconsistent player, who sometimes frustrates, but hey, he ant be great all the time. He has had a not so goo run prior to today but over this season he has contributed heavily to us being top of the league. Yes folks, top of the league. If Ricky or Lallana have two poor games in a row, who screams at them. Just get behind all the team an enjoy this fantastic season no matter where we end up now.
Fact #1: Guly didn't have the best game against Portsmouth. Fact #2: Guly had a great game today against Palace. One performance doesn't make a player, Guly's quality has shone and will continue to shine over the course of this season. 9 goals and 7 assists already doesn't come easily.
Guly really should have done better in the micro-second he had to think whilst defending the back post against Pompey but when you come to judge someone, it should be done over a suitable period of time. It should also take into consideration their response to setbacks, however major, minor or significant. As I see it, a player who cost us two points last time out just won us three. What more can you ask for?
