Unfortunately most Brits over 40 can't donate blood in a lot of mainland Europe - if you lived in the UK for over 12 months between 1980-1995, it's verboten due to potential CJD transmission.

I can't donate, having had over fifty pints of blood over the years if I could donate I wouldn't hesitate.

My Mrs is B neg but sadly they won't take her blood anymore because she takes drugs for Rheumatoid arthritis?

On the other hand,mine gets drained regularly(venesection) because of iron overload and it's only fit for the bin !!!

I am O-Neg. Which used to make me very popular as a donor. I am no longer eligible to donate due to age.

A negative for me. I gave about 70 donations before I decided I had done enough. It was just something I did. In recent years they started to tell you where your blood was going, such as The Children's Hospital in Nottingham, and that made it feel a but more real and rewarding.
 
I had 4 pints in three days and if not for donors i'd have been ****ed.
Great respect to donors.
