All of the above were just a deflection when asked why they favoured Brexit. How many people are fishermen or run businesses that import/export? Very few. The sole reason 99.9% of people voted for Brexit was they thought it would stop immigration but they just daren't admit it for fear of being called "racist"

I suppose we should count our blessings.

There are no racists on this forum …

… in fact none in the Reform party, not even any in the UK.

My mate had a lad who worked for him voted to leave because he didn't like the French because "they eat frogs and I like frogs" . I hated Thatcher but she was right when she said that a referendum to stay or leave would be bad idea as the impact of leaving was far too complicated for the average man in the street to understand.

I just have
The EU refused to accept the will of the Polish vote
The European Union suspended a rebate for Poland, the European Commission previously withheld over €130 billion in structural and post-pandemic recovery funds. This vast suspension was largely driven by former rule-of-law disputes and has since been actively thawing
What Polish vote are you referring to? The changes to the judiciary system, which contravened core EU values, were enacted through normal legislative process. Judicial independence was restored when Donald Tusk came into power.

I'm still waiting for someone to give me an example of EU minions forcing a country to hold a second referendum.

Police at the scene in Brierfield on Friday
A man has been named and charged after a teenager was stabbed in a UK town, police said. Lancashire Constabulary provided the update on Sunday, two days after officers were called to Wood Street in Brierfield to attend an incident.

The officers were called to the street at 3.06pm on June 12 and found that a 17-year-old girl had been stabbed in the neck, Lancashire police said in a statement. The teen, who was taken to hospital for treatment, didn't suffer life-threatening injuries, the force added.

A statement released on Sunday read: "She was taken to hospital for treatment. Thankfully her injuries were not life-threatening and she has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering at home."

A man, 30, was arrested shortly after the incident was reported on suspicion of attempted murder, police said.

On Sunday, police said a man had been charged.

Lancashire Constabulary's statement today also read: "Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, Junaid Nawaz, 30, of Livingstone Walk, Brierfield – who is British born of Pakistani heritage – has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a knife in a public place.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear before Blackburn Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (15th June)."

Labour leadership candidate Wes Streeting has kicked off his campaign to become Prime Minister by pledging to drill for oil and gas in the North Sea - in a savage slap in the face to Net Zero Secretary Ed Miliband. He accused “opponents of the North Sea” of putting up household energy prices and pushing voters into the arms of Nigel Farage and Reform UK.
The battle to replace Sir Keir Starmer as party leader and Prime Minister is set to begin in earnest following the Makerfield by-election on Thursday, when Greater Manchester Mayor and leadership contender Andy Burnham hopes to return to Parliament as an MP. But Mr Streeting, the former Health Secretary, today set out two big policies, effectively launching his own leadership bid before Mr Burnham has the chance.

The Silence at the Old Bailey: Why is the Starmer Arson Trial Being Buried?

Counter Terrorism Policing London is leading the investigation, a designation that reflects the nature of the alleged target and not the charge. No terrorism offences have been brought. The Metropolitan Police have made no public attribution to any foreign state. The motive, officially, remains what one court document described as unexplained and opaque. The maximum sentence for the offence of arson with intent to endanger life is life imprisonment and yet no Jury

The BBC has begun a major cost-cutting programme which could see 2,000 jobs lost across the corporation. Hundreds of BBC News staff are expected to find out within days whether their roles are at risk as the broadcaster looks to slash spending by hundreds of millions of pounds.
The news division is set to be the first area affected, with sources familiar with the plans saying an announcement could come as early as next week. Several radio programmes are also reportedly facing potential cuts. The move comes as the BBC grapples with growing financial pressures despite the annual television licence fee rising to £180. The corporation has reported both higher levels of licence fee evasion and an increasing number of households declaring they no longer watch live television. Licence fee evasion currently stands at 12.52 per cent, with around 3.6 million households saying they do not need a licence. The combined impact has left the BBC facing losses of more than £1billion, with the number of licences dropping from 26.2 million in 2017 to around 23.8 million in 2026.

It’s quite obvious that there is a threat from both the far right & the far left. Lots of varied opinions on here but ultimately it comes down to what we all feel is best for our country.
In the here & now I would struggle to vote for any party if a general election was called, that speaks volumes for me. I look at all the party leaders and if I was made to pick one who has impressed me most recently I would have to say Kemi Badenoch. However I could never ever vote for the Tories. So I sit here now without a way to turn politically.
My friends are all massively in favour of Farage, my family are in favour of Labour but admittedly that’s down to loyalty. I find it fascinating how people see things on this thread, the general feeling amongst the majority on here seems to lean massively to the left but the people I work with and mix with are very right wing. There seems to be no middle ground. Immigration is the driver on both sides.

Can 2025 Get Any Worse for Labour? (Spoiler: Yes, It Can)

Just when you thought Labour’s 2025 couldn’t possibly spiral further into the abyss, hold their collective beer, it just did…

While Sir Keir Starmer’s been busy playing whack-a-mole with Elon Musk’s Twitter torpedoes about historical grooming gang failures, his party’s delivered yet another masterclass in spectacular self-destruction.

Enter stage left: Ivor Caplin, former Labour Minister and, as of January 11, the star of a viral video that’s definitely not the kind of social media presence Labour’s PR team was hoping for. Sussex Police—presumably not operating a parody account—confirmed they’ve arrested the 66-year-old ex-Veterans Minister on suspicion of “engaging in sexual communication with a child.” Because apparently, Labour needed another crisis like a hole in the head.

Picture this: there’s Caplin, resplendent in his black trench coat and red cap (subtle fashion choices there), being cuffed while insisting he was “just going into town.” A fascinating defence strategy, though perhaps not quite as compelling as his TV appearance mere days earlier, valiantly defending Starmer against Musk’s accusations. Talk about ageing like milk in the sun.

I've stopped myself from following personality politics in my older age. Previously being guilty of it in the past with Blair. My family and most of my friends (I believe) are Labour supporters, so probably become more loyal in my retired years.

From this background I see the threat from the far right far more than that from the far left. Happy to have the far left threats posted on here, but I don't see it as being anything significant like that I believe exists from Farage's racist far right. Sunderland Council has unbelievably swung from Labour to Reform just after our city looks to be starting to benefit from regeneration. I hope this is not jeopardised in the upcoming years.

My beliefs in the political system maybe tested in the coming week if Burnham takes Makerfield. I don't like him as he represents personality politics. If he doesn't win, Reform may start to build momentum in UK politics. A frightening prospect in my eyes.

Cant wait till they get in and kick these thieving Labour grifters into touch, like the 6 times before in history when Labour run out of taxpayers money they get kicked out and it takes the next government 3 to 4 years to get a grip on the state they left it in

Immigration was the key issue that led to Trump being elected, the Maga vote.

All over Europe, the Immigration issue is having an impact by bringing right wing parties to the brink of power.

This is obvious, but as in the UK the Lib/Lab/Con mainstream parties are being left behind as they fail to come to grips with what folk are fearing. Leaving the likes of Fa gash to con people to vote for him. He wants power to make himself rich just like Trump, both now and in the past have shown their racist tendencies.

Just as some Labour backbenchers are realising action has to be taken about the rising welfare Bill. Action from the PM, a former lawyer the DPP, who has looked ineffectual in 'stopping the boats', even worse ge doesn't seem to care.

Immigration is not and has never been an excuse for far right hatred. Its very sad that more people than ever deem it socially acceptable. When did fascism become ok? Those defending it are shameful
