We still have a phenomenal amount of cash to play with, though. Okay, we lost money on Ibou, but it's freed up his wages, and if a few players like Chiesa, Gakpo, and possibly Macca go this summer, then there'll be even more wiggle room. Don't forget, the net spend last summer was @£250m on transfers, not the headline £500m the media likes to spout, and really, that needs to be spread across the two previous years as we'd spent buttons since the 2023 summer window compared to all the other 'top six' clubs, and even others like Villa and Forest.
On top of that, the revenue figures for this year, which include astronomical kit and merchandise sales from last July onwards, are supposedly mind-blowing. Iraola will have a reasonable kitty to work with, but there almost certainly won't be super-marquee buys like Wirtz and Isak - thankfully. But we need more than a 'couple' - we need backup fullbacks (not megabuys), a reasonable DM, we've got a CB coming, and probably need one more, and we're lining up a winger. Don't be surprised if we net spend another £200m, but I hope Hughes doesn't have the final say in it all.
