Immigrants are not your enemyGood post, however it fails to cover the amount of immigrants our country can sustain. You must log in or register to see mediaImmigrants are not your enemy
Important to remember these are human beings who want a better life, like we all do, in the midst of the exploitation of hate for power.Good post, however it fails to cover the amount of immigrants our country can sustain.
We must never forget the question how many immigrants can we sustain per year? This needs to be discussed. We cannot allow everyone who is unhappy in their country access to ours.Important to remember these are human beings who want a better life, like we all do, in the midst of the exploitation of hate for power.
We must have an honest conversation about immigration but not one based on hate. Not one based on denying our responsibility as humans to help our neighbours as well as ourselves, so we create safe routes. We need to manage risk and manage the economy and public services - those last two points don’t necessarily mean keep them out either. We must also celebrate the wonderful benefits those living here bring and have brought to us. Not dehumanise them and see them as threats. We must never forget the question how many immigrants can we sustain per year? This needs to be discussed. We must also talk about bigger threats to our wellbeing like excess wealth, tax avoidance and it’s threat to public services.
From what I’ve read there’s significant progress being made …
… not reported much I admit, so people believe nothing’s happening.
So the problem is much more wider ranging - we need to review how our society operates - than just "capping" numbers of immigration across Europe.Isn’t there a million people unemployed and businesses saying it’s just become too expensive to employ people in low paid jobs?
Agreed. Also, include points raised on here, regarding illegal immigration...

You're half right mate. Immigrants fleeing tyranny like this gentleman aren't our enemy. Immigrants fleeing justice and starting criminal enterprises here most definitely are. The others, who don't fall into these categories should apply through legal channels. You must log in or register to see mediaImmigrants are not your enemy
Try telling that to Henry Nowaks parents......I note the word dignity used in there, poor lad wasnt afforded any dignity during his dying breaths. You must log in or register to see mediaImmigrants are not your enemy
Agreed, but we hope the independent police review show this as a one-off anomaly, or another root and branch review is required (again).Try telling that to Henry Nowaks parents......I note the word dignity used in there, poor lad wasnt afforded any dignity during his dying breaths.
Is correct. I promised myself,...and others,.... I'd stay off this thread, but, reading through, not only the system has collapsed, but also social and cultural values, contributing to why so many young people are finding things difficult......I have 5 grandchildren aged between 18 and 25......I know first hand how things are.Infrastructure in the country (housing, schools, hospitals etc) is not a random thing. It is built to accommodate a certain amount of people. If you introduce people into the country in the numbers of a large town, on a regular basis, the system collapses. Basic mathematics.
I agree, it's an unfortunately situation we find our society in. I wonder what labour are doing about it. Being a member of the labour party I truly hope they can sort out this mess we find ourselves in. I wonder if the media scrutinise Blair for his choices as much as they covered yesterday's debate, where Labour MPs discussed men's access to ladies toilets? Is correct. Blair, why did he open the borders,in advance of the Germans and the French, and even then,on different terms?
As it's turned out,a treasonous act, which has gone a long way to making life here miserable for many, resulting in Brexit and the rise of right wing populism.
Stand up Tony Blair....you are a ****ing idiot, with nobody's interests at heart other than your own.
Me too mate but some of the drivel copied and pasted onto here without being challenged or liked I may add, has made this thread nothing but a propaganda platform for some. There are some great points of view from a lot of people but it just gets shut down with some copy and paste drivel,Is correct. I promised myself,...and others,.... Great post marra, and covers much of my feelings as well. However, did someone post that the new ID cards don't include Sex? Hence they wouldn’t vote for Starmer...Welcome home brother.
I genuinely have no idea the rationale behind Blair doing that, this might be totally irrelevant or relevant, but economically we were thriving more back then. It was a different context and we know that migrant workers can help businesses and services. I still think mistakes were made while we had it. Public services were strong but financial inequality still grew and there is a knock on impact on people having money, secure jobs and spend giving government money to spend on services. Poverty costs all aspects of government. You have to add in the impact of Brexit financially which also impacted our resilience to covid and i think economic hardship can cause conflict over resources- oil, minerals etc ie war.
I don’t know enough about it truthfully but I've seen it said that managed / controlled immigration - allocation by agreement - everyone getting a share through legal routes - a partnership like we had in the EU- was better than the boats which seem to strike fear into people, while giving some politicians and some media sources the ammunition to amplify that fear. The sense of being invaded. Im definitely pro legal routes, with controls. Add to that, austerity removed services that helped people to be supported and mix and engage at community level. So people feel distant - us v them rather than a friendly neighbour.
I’m no fan of McSweeney Labour, but i do see Labour remedying some errors through partnerships and smart policies. It isn't heard because they make mistakes alongside the good things - ID cards etc and Starmer is a wooden bureaucrat when we need moral leadership, hope and inspiration.
Hi marra, good to know you're still functioning on all cylinders!Welcome home brother.

The father and brother of the killer are up in front of a judge this afternoon. Also, the leniency of the 21 year sentence for murder is being reviewed.Try telling that to Henry Nowaks parents......I note the word dignity used in there, poor lad wasnt afforded any dignity during his dying breaths.
