The McVities CEO wanted to call the stadium The McVities Biscuit Bowl and got laughed at by the Hull City staff on a commercial trip to Turkey. The same CEO (not the owner) didn't approve of any sponsorship of the club but was following orders from their owner. He couldn't see the value in it or any need for it. They feel they have already dominated the British market. That may change now we're on the global stage though.
Chevrolet are pretty well known, didn't stop them sponsoring united! As you say, sponsoring a PL club is as much about being associated with success as marketing the brand.

Now then, I make no apologies for sounding like a know nowt but now we’ve got some cash can’t we buy the stadium off the skint HCC and extend the east stand to mirror the west . Add an extra 10k onto the capacity. It’s only worth £20m tops and if the biscuit man came onboard he could have the naming rights. “The McVities Stadium” has a certain ring to it. We could call it the Biscuit Barrel amongst ourselves or am I talking a load of Fig Rolls?

Disclaimer. I may be a bit tiddly.⚽
Dated (yes, I know:emoticon-0100-smile), but for the uninitiated younger members, here's an historic yet somewhat topical reference point...tempus fugit. :emoticon-0106-cryin

Talking as a Hull based Brentford fan I don't think the stadium needs an increased capacity but it currently only has about 600 hospitality seats which is probably something the commercial team will want to increase.

For comparison, Brentford had about 150 at Griffin Park and now there a 2800 in a 17,250 seat stadium. These aren’t hospitality box seats (Gtech only has 3 boxes) but "Pie & Pint" type packages in separate lounges.

If anything you could backfill behind the West Stand to create these extra facilities without the complexities of dealing with increased spectators.

Forgot to add (and relevant to the op ed) I'm interested to hear people's opinions about where an integrated training ground and academy could be located.

Realistically even if Acun were to green light a new training facility today and had all the planning permissions sorted, it ain’t going to be available until 27/28 season at the earliest.

You guys probably know more than me but there seems to be a lot of local football talent that slips through Hull’s fingers to Leeds etc.

IMHO there should be a plan to reach Category 1 academy status but guess that's not possible with the current facilities.

I think Leeds poach the talent. Not sure of the rules but 50 mile radius has been quoted..also 2 hours drive..not really sure how that works.I know a Hull lad who has moved to Leeds and also 2 Leeds academy who have been released by them who City have taken.
There is an excellent under 10 talent who City have missed who has ended up at Grimsby..Lincoln and Blades also offered but City sat on the fence and lost him.

Lord Line building area, buy the lot, any extra land left over get a developer involved for housing to bring the cost down. :emoticon-0138-think

It's our time.

It is a huge area thats just sat doing nothing for ages

Your idea would be very good
Could even integrate the signage of the lord line building into it somehow

Where will the people sit though? Most of the west stand is full of members and sponsors already in the lower bowl isnt it?

Everton did it...we tried it locally but the bowling alley ended up being scrapped as the infill used to fill the dock seeped away.

Couldn't agree more, we need approx 10 - 20% more capacity

If the stadium is selling out more than a handful of times in a season (which it surely will next year) then it's too small

There are clubs in the Premier league with smaller capacity than we have now, there are also league 1 clubs with a mostly empty bigger stadium than ours.
Sure it's nice if more can get to see the game live but in the scale of things gate receipts are not so important.

I think prestige and overall image of the club and stadium are critical for long-term success in the top flight - look at Brighton and Brentford since building their stadiums, they've never looked back

Also if you want to grow the fanbase you need to make sure there are ample tickets available for casual fans who are unlikely to bother with building up their loyalty points, sitting on season ticket waiting lists, etc, etc

They just want to be able to easily jump online, buy a ticket, and enjoy a one-off game with low / minimal effort

So it's multi-dimensional and not just about raw gate receipts or number of bums on seats
