I've just started recording in case my brain can't take it all in ...

... I had to look at the league table in case we'd had points docked.

Lumping Newcastle in with us is really clutching at straws, we are in control of our own destiny.
They just can't accept it. I think they're so delusional now in the Geordie media that they'll try and find something to make it look like a success for them. But they've always been like that.

There's a story in Jimmy Greaves book, The Heart Of The Game, about when he was playing for Chelsea in the early 60s against the mags at Sid James. When they were getting the train back to London after the match he saw the headline for the Chronicle's version of the football echo that said "mags in seven goal thriller". Chelsea had battered them 6-1 and the mags goal was a late consolation. Nothing has really changed with them, other than getting more desperate and delusional.

Nice one mate.

There is a chance of Europe, for Newcastle, but surely ours is more realistic.

Perhaps I'm wrong but Newcastle are away from home with a squad that's falling apart.

Sunderland are at home to a team with the worst form in the PL except the relegated teams.

If Chelsea beat Spurs, Newcastle's chance will have already gone before they play Fulham.

If we fail to win I'll take it on the chin, if Newcastle fail they'll blame it on PSR <laugh>

Its incredible to think where we were a handful of years ago. We failed to beat Lincoln City in the League 1 play off semi final and now we are 90 minutes away from potentially playing in Europe.
Such a shame Netflix didn't continue there documentary as the turn around this club has been through is unreal. I'm scared of waking up to find this was all a dream.

oh they must be KICKING themselves

last seasons PO and this season.

Current standings Conference league from big leagues (be some good Scandinavian/Belgium/Austria possibilities too)

Rennes (closest)
Freiburg (great City)
Ajax (nowt need said, carnage…)
Atalanta (cheap flights from Ponteland)
Getafe (Madrid. Great trip)
Braga (Stadium is incredible)

Only Freiburg and Braga confirmed, Rennes could swap with Marseille last day that would be amazing for club and for the LD family.

I see so many teams whinging about being cost points. Forest the latest.

But let’s think over the last few months, refs against wolves and Man U have cost us probably 4 points.

That would’ve put us level with Bournemouth on 55! And that is a potential champions league position! So everyone whinging that these decisions have cost them the odd game, can **** off!! 2 massive refereeing balls ups against us have cost us a potential huge prize

If it was Marseille and we got there would there be a UEFA shout of the LD family being involved with both clubs even though different members of the family?

Oh bloody hell. Just realised they’ll have another trophy if Sunderland make it into Europe.

The “your first ever trip into Europe and you have to fly from our airport “ trophy

(Ps. I know it’s not our first, but the chances are that they dont)
Strangely enough an old fella in one of the Indian restaurants we go to had another bite at us on Friday night on this very point.
I had to point out that we had played in a genuine European Cup competition, on merit, namely the Cup Winners Cup competition in the 1973/74 season following our win in the 1973 FA Cup Final.
I also politely enquired if we were the first NE team to play in a genuine European competition on merit as against an invitational tournament as I was unsure. Unfortunately he couldn't answer that question so I took my leave.

We really seem to be getting under their skins as I have spoken to ti's guy for years about football but now all I get is attempted abuse. Ah well, we move on.

It's an easy one mate.

The Inter City Fairs Cup was based on 'one club per city', teams often went through on a coin toss and some given a bye when the opposition simply failed to show up. If you need a clincher ask him how to spell Ujpest Dozsa and which country they were from ...

... or you could ask who Ujpest beat in the semi-final. It was Goztepe Spor Kulubu who went through after Humburg said they had better things to do and pulled out.

I know this sounds made up but it's all true, in the first round Ujpest were supposed to play a team from Luxemburg who couldn't afford to travel, for the match, and later disbanded ...

... the Mags will try to tell you it was the UEFA Cup before it was renamed, it wasn't <laugh>

Na mate we golden, has to be a ‘controlling interest’

We’d be allowed to play Marseille, which would be ****ing tremendous.

Shame there’s no big Spanish club like a Sevilla or Valencia to draw out.

I really don't understand why they are reacting in this manner now. I mean you'd think that they were insecure or something. Well we live and learn.

Question for the financial lads on here, is it true that when you qualify for Europe your PSR or whatever it’s called now, is reduced and if so by how much?
It’s 70% of turnover v 85% for PL, something like that.

We are far leaner than that as far as I understand anyway.

For a club like us we’d probably increase turnover dramatically with Europe exposure anyway it’s likely more harmful to established teams with a European prescence who already factor in the income.

You seem to be forgetting the penalty we should have had @ Bournemouth. If so we would actually be 2 points ahead of them.

Cheers marra, so it’s a -15% deficit?, is that deficit attainable in the less lucrative conference league?

I’d say so.

It’s still exposure, we’d sell out those games for sure as we’d all want to be part of it, probably not massive TV income etc but exposure to fans around Europe and the world who might not fully know the club.

I’m speculating but there’s clubs like Palace, Vallecano etc in there who are smaller than us and it hasn’t killed them. We know we are well ran so I’d wager we can absorb that quite comfortably.

Would certainly add a few quid to sponsorship deals and so on, which haven’t been announced yet.

Much as it will pain us we are likely to sell one of Roefs or Sadiki for crazy money this summer too which will bloat our income, as well as a few contracts ending for players we paying for nothing at moment.

We in good shape.
