If a manager is innocent, said manager does not walk out of an interview, when asked is he a cheat? He confidently challenges the question and provides bona fide explanations. Walking out with feigned disgust is the body language of a guilty person.
Said manager will be under strict instruction from club lawyers to say nothing.

I feel a bit sorry for the EFL on this. Saints have pretty obviously broken a rule that requires a sporting punishment, but every iteration of said punishment will **** someone over and they've only had a couple of days to gather evidence and come to a decision. There's a massive amount of time pressure and the rewards for promotion don't need to be stated.

I reckon they dock Southampton points (say 7) so that they are below Boro but above us, the only thing that means is that Boro and Southhampton played the fixtures the wrong way around. Then fine them a **** load of cash.

There's literally no chance the game isn't played and kicking them out of the whole thing and putting Boro in the final would cause headaches for years.

The whole thing is all very Hull City though isn't it...

The EFL are awaiting the "Independent Disciplinary Commission's" verdict, without wishing to prejudice the outcome by doing something sensible like making a decision. Trouble is, once the decision is announced, every man and his dog have the right to appeal it, including the EFL. Lawyers rarely hurry, it's a mess.

The Sun think that the manager may be banned for the play-off final.

I don't agree with kicking them out but that sounds light. I am supposing that would be part of a punishment rather than THE punishment.

When managers get red carded, and are not in the dugout, does it ever really make any difference to the team?

I would expect at least a £500k fine to go with it.

Trouble is, whatever fine you give them is nothing if they get to the PL.
Whatever happens, rules need tightening after this. IF a club is found guilty of breaking the "spying" rules in the future, then they are automatically kicked out of the play offs.

That'd be seen as a huge cop-out.
I think they're just saying that's likely to be part of it. But they don't have real inside knowledge -- it's just speculation. My speculation is still that 100% Southampton will not be permitted to compete in the final, and I expect it will be by way of declaring the first leg forfeit, and a 3-0 victory to Boro.

This Watford fan reckons we are one of the 6 clubs they've done it to. Not sure how reliable he is but I believe he's involved in scouting and works for a club in some capacity.
I wondered what that bloke was doing on top of the roof of Cross Keys...I assumed he was nicking the lead, but I thought what does he need those bins for!

I think declaring the first leg forfeit in favour of Boro is the best way they can prevent them from being in the final from a legal perspective.

If the EFL just decided to disqualify them from the final, Southampton’s lawyers will likely try to get a High Court injunction to prevent the final from going ahead entirely. The EFL would probably have their decision declared ultra vires and thrown out.

However, the EFL would have a stronger legal argument to declare the first leg forfeit in favour of a 3-0 victory to Boro, given that the spying offence was in relation to that particular match. This would mean Boro win 4-2 on aggregate. Therefore, Southampton are not expelled or disqualified from the final but rather they lost the semi-final on aggregate.

I think you're right. Cue mass compensation claims from Boro fans who travelled down to the away leg, and maybe even Southampton fans hacked off at their own club.
