Whoever replaces him will probably become equally unpopular before too long, because of the state of the economy. Then what?

'It's the economy stupid' as Bill Clinton said. We need to get back to real world economics. We are still paying for the Covid splurge and it is no good blaming others for that. Everyone agreed it was necessary at the time.

We need to get welfare spending under control. We can't live with welfare spending greater than income tax. I'm afraid the pension triple lock has to go. It needs someone with the cojones to do it. As for other welfare spending well it certainly needs to be modified such that work pays for everyone. For the life of me I can't see why most of the those on benefits with a motorability car needs it in our big cities. In rural areas fair enough. I know this probably a drop on the ocean, but big puddles come from small rain drops. I don't like the idea of children living in poverty, but I seem to recall that child benefit used to be tapered in my youth. I could go on. I am not right wing as my daughter in law says, the problem is that politics on general has moved to the left.

Like it or not Donald Trump was right about the US subsidising Europe's defence. That is an urgent problem.

Oh and as an aside we have to tackle immigration both legal (which the government has made a start on) and illegal. The illegal side really annoys most people and rightly so.

The last Labour manifesto was right we need to get the economy to pay for welfare etc. The problem is that they have done the opposite.

50 years ago, one wage was enough for a family to live on.
And if you worked hard and were honest, you had a job for life.

Today, both partners working does not make ends meet. Millions are on universal credit - a sticking plaster to cover a fatal wound in our society.
And there is no such thing as job security anymore.

That's what happens when you close the mines, big factories, coachbuilders, car plants, foundries and shipyards (generational employers)
And replace them with call centres and coffee shops.

Will the last working person to leave the UK please turn the lights off.

Rishi Sunak in his shirt-sleeves, Jacob Rees-Mogg reading the news... :emoticon-0160-movie classic telly.

I have to say Starmer is a disappointment to both my wife and myself. We hoped a Grammar School educated person from a poorer background would make a decent fist of it. As to whether he should resign I don't know. If I were him I would, take my prime minister pension and live the quiet life.

The problem as I see it that the Labour Party is outdated. They still want to live in a them and us society. The problem the us has more or less disappeared as Lardi said. It has been largely replaced by people who are either are self employed or work in smallish businesses. They have aspirations not grievances. Most of the rest are the workshy who seem to be living a reasonable life at their expense.

Despite what people think of Farage he has identified this and is using it to his advantage. I have met him a couple of times in the Blacksmiths Arms in Cudham at lunch on Ramblers walks. He does certainly have charisma something Starmer amd most others do not. We had an interesting discussion on the merits of the different real ales available both times. I seem to remember he likes draught Tribute.

So basically everyone knows Starmer is a lame duck waiting to be shot, but no one has the balls or support to challenge him in a leadership race…………..apart from Andy Burnham who is being blocked by the party from standing to become an MP again.
Starmer knows that if a Burnham becomes an MP he will immediately launch a leadership challenge and would probably have the support to win. So why would Starmer allow that to happen ?

A complete mess and the country will just limp along in a state of limbo until a general election is called.

Time for Reform or the Greens to have a go. It can’t be any worse than the last two lots of idiots.

What a state we’re in.
