The trouble is nobody wants an ex-lawyer for a Prime Minister.

Coal miner <ok>
House wife <ok>
Insurance clerk <ok>
Public schoolboy who never grew up <ok>
Hubby of a billionaire's daughter <ok>

But not a lawyer :emoticon-0149-no: You have to draw the line somewhere.

Well if he has given up on remoaners (not me I hasten to add, I voted to stay) he is going lose the next election for sure. We might be in the majority overall, but that won't decide the next election unless something extraordinary happens. He might win back a lot of the green votes, but the Red Wall will still collapse, because that is where the Brexit voters are and there are more than sufficient amongst the remoaners who are never going to vote Labour again now to make sure Labour loses.

If Labour and the Conservative parties want to hang on to some semblance of power, they need unite and reform the voting system to some form of PR. They will probably never win an outright majority again then, but they will still stand a good chance of being the largest parties. We haven't had a government that has got over 50% of the vote share since the early 1950's if you exclude the Conservative/Lib Dem one. That cannot be good for our democracy.

I don’t say this often, but a great announcement from Sir Kier about British Steel -

“British Steel Will Be Taken Back Into Full Government Ownership“*

Well done Prime Minister, you have finally made a correct decision<applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause><applause>

Remoaner is just a slightly rude way of saying remainer is it not?

I realise in my earlier post I should have said given up on People who voted for Brexit in the first sentence rather that remoaners.

Wes Streeting will go for it tomorrow morning.

Leadership election will be triggered soon.

But who will the left of the party put forward without Andy Burnham and who will they suppprt ?

Can't be Rayner while she's still under investigation byHMRC. My personal opinion for what it's worth is that Hilary Benn has the necessary gravitas and respect to lead the country, but has been sent out to grass in N.I. Dan Jarvis is another who should have been promoted to a senior role. Starmer has built a cabinet in his own image, and therein lies the problem.

Indeed. I think it’s only Streeting from the cabinet. Other challengers will all be from the left. And probably only Burnham could beat Streeting, but of course he can’t stand. It’s why Streeting will go for it as soon as he thinks he can oust Starmer.

If we get anyone from the left we could have a Liz Truss moment. The economy is too fragile, and the bond markets are twitching.

It’s either Streeting or a left wing candidate. I think Streeting would defeat everyone from the left of the party apart from Burnham and he can’t stand. Up to 72 now plus apparently 10 others who have said in private they want him to go but haven’t come out in public yet. Home Secretary is the first cabinet minister to call for him to go. He’ll be facing a leadership election process by tomorrow.

And it’s the Kings Speech on Wednesday, outlining the (current) cabinets priorities <doh>

Maybe Charlie should be sent back to the States for a couple of weeks. Could we make him US Ambassador?
