-> "We constantly decry as a country that we have no young English managers coming through, never mind black managers. Here we have a
promising one and he’s turned into a joke"

It was, and should be, totally irrelevant, yet you chose to point it out.
I've made my point. Maybe best to hold your hand up and just move on.

Why should I hold my hand up at a completely accurate statement?

It is true that black and ethnic minority coaches are underrepresented as managers if you compare the number of black and ethnic minority players in first team squads and academies nowadays (estimated at 30 to 40% of all players being black, mixed race or ethnic background) you are correct.

And if you take the figure of 4% current black or ethnic minority managers in English football compared to around 18% of the UK population there is no argument that these people are underrepresented.

What annoys me though (not saying you're doing it) is how it is wheeled out as if its the fault of the game as a whole. It isn't.

The FA are trying to encourage more minorities and women coaches to get involved. When I did my UEFA C licence im certain that a percentage of the available places where held for those groups to be guaranteed a place. They also pay 20% of the costs for underrepresented groups for them to encourage more take up.

For whatever reason there are far less black players, and volunteers, wanting to take the higher level coaching badges which means they are not represented.

Im doing my B licence soon. Ive been offered a job with an academy and theyre paying for it. If someone wants to work in football, they can. Even as a chubby bald old white bloke!! Opportunities are there. For whatever reason minorities dont want to chase them it seems.

Is it the fault of Sol Campbell and his constant negativity? Maybe. Ashley Cole is now making similar noises. From what I was told he is a capable coach and has a job, so why is he bleating on about this subject? Surely if he cared that much he would be offering to help the FA and the game he made his living from by offering to help recruit and educate minority group ex players?

There has to be a reason why Black and Minority Ethnic people aren't choosing to go into coaching or management roles. Is it because they get more criticism? Is it because they don't see it as 'for them'?

I don't have the answers, I haven't spoken to enough black or minority ethnic players. Doesn't Les Ferdinand do a lot of work to understand the differences?

It is the fault of the game, but its also the fault of the press and all fans I guess. I do suspect we may see change in the future as good schemes allow people to come through the production line, but I also don't see the harm in pointing out stuff that is possibly doing damage too.

I wasn’t aware that Frank Lampard has links to Hull City?

He’s done a great job at Coventry and I always thought he was given a hard go of it at Chelsea.
I wasn't aware that all these 'black' coaches that you've piled on top of Liam Rosenior were anything to do with us either but it suited your agenda to bring them up!!!

The minute I bring a white one up it's got **** all to do with the debate?

Give it a rest mate,it's boring and tiresome...

Certainly Asian and other ethnic minorities are very under represented. But blacks are only 3% of the population. How many Asian managers are there? I don’t think a lot of black players want to go into management in this country. A lot of them are from other countries. They make a lot of money and a lot return to their home country where they can live very comfortably or take up coaching there.

Sorry, who else have I brought up? I also brought young white English managers into the debate right at the start.

Agreed. And I didn't know the split between black and Asian. So if youre right and its 3% and English managers of black heritage make up 4% then we are currently oversubscribed and this is yet another totally pointless argument on here!!

How is it the fault of the game or the fans? That's my question.

Fans. Its not 1975, monkey chanting and racist idiots left the terraces years ago. Are you seriously saying that if Tom Huddlestone was appointed our next manager any of our fans would kick up a stink or abuse him? Away fans wouldn't either. He clearly has his level as an assistant/academy coach and if someone feels he is good enough he will step up to be a first team manager somewhere.

Social media abuse of black players and managers still exists. And whilst its abhorrent let's not ignore the thousands of disgusting messages white players and managers get on there too. 'Fat frank' is expected to be thick skinned and get on with it. Yes, racist abuse is disgusting but I dont believe for one minute its the reason Carlton Palmer didn't decide to go into management.

And you say the game. So I assume you mean the British game, the FA, League of Wales etc. They run Kick it out programmes. They actively encourage black people to join their UEFA licensing programme, they even offer to pay something towards it. Within clubs there are regular visits at both academy level and first team level from people encouraging players to do their badges or fulfil other roles within the game offering support to do so. Do you think they walk in and just give this info to the white lads?

There is far more of an issue with homophobia in football right now than racism. I guarantee if one of our players came out the opposition fans would hammer him. Hence the reason none of them speak about it.

Sorry, typo.It is 4%. Certainly some sections are over represented in TV presenting, acting roles, adverts etc. But no complaints about that.

I think there was a period where every media outlet went full on crazy trying to tick boxes. Even minority groups found it patronising.

Its settled down now to a point, probably only the BBC and woke companies continue to practice it.

The fact is, and its really simple, if youre good enough you should get the job. Perfect example of this are Laura Woods and Gabby Logan. Theyre the best Anchors since Des Lynam. A threesome I'd have bloody loved to see together as well.

But racism isn't just monkey chants is it? There's some that is more subtle than that and ingrained attitudes too. Some say that black people get more criticism when its deemed they aren't doing a good job. Is that putting people off?

As I say, I'm not an expert and I don't have the answers, but something is and that's not right.

Love the way some of our fans who would struggle to get into XXXXL clothing call Lampard Fat Frank.
Don’t think it is so much homophobia, in either correct use of the word phobia or the misuse of it, it isjust a way of getting at a player or opposition fans. Trouble is the longer it takes for a player to come out means it will never happen, once oe does and is accepted the more will follow. Women’s football has no problem with teams full of homosexuals.

Fair point but I'd like to know what this ingrained attitude is that is putting people off.

Owners cant all be racist idiots with subconscious racism inside them. There are probably thousands of jobs where you see mainly white people doing them, its just weight of numbers surely?

Have you ever seen a black lollipop man or woman? Im sure there are some somewhere but ive never seen one around here. My wife works on the trains. In her company I can think of only one female black lady who is a driver and not a single other black member of staff from about 150. There are a dozen or more female drivers and far more women than men guards, but none black. Is that ingrained racism or lack of applications? A company the size of first group will have a policy for sure so im not sure it will be through people just being rejected.

As I said not arguing with you, your points are interesting but I dont understand why people are always blaming the FA or employers.

I hope so because it must be awful living with that secret in the world of football. I know a lad in rugby league who did the same. Made his career a misery.

I am sure Des wouldn't mind but he might be a bit old for threesomes these days. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

No I don't think owners are massive racists, but I do know some black people. They often tell me that they feel their work and decisions are scrutinised more. I don't know if they are right or not, but its possible isn't it?

Basically, I blame the Daily Mail. Done me right so far.
