It is true that black and ethnic minority coaches are underrepresented as managers if you compare the number of black and ethnic minority players in first team squads and academies nowadays (estimated at 30 to 40% of all players being black, mixed race or ethnic background) you are correct.
And if you take the figure of 4% current black or ethnic minority managers in English football compared to around 18% of the UK population there is no argument that these people are underrepresented.
What annoys me though (not saying you're doing it) is how it is wheeled out as if its the fault of the game as a whole. It isn't.
The FA are trying to encourage more minorities and women coaches to get involved. When I did my UEFA C licence im certain that a percentage of the available places where held for those groups to be guaranteed a place. They also pay 20% of the costs for underrepresented groups for them to encourage more take up.
For whatever reason there are far less black players, and volunteers, wanting to take the higher level coaching badges which means they are not represented.
Im doing my B licence soon. Ive been offered a job with an academy and theyre paying for it. If someone wants to work in football, they can. Even as a chubby bald old white bloke!! Opportunities are there. For whatever reason minorities dont want to chase them it seems.
Is it the fault of Sol Campbell and his constant negativity? Maybe. Ashley Cole is now making similar noises. From what I was told he is a capable coach and has a job, so why is he bleating on about this subject? Surely if he cared that much he would be offering to help the FA and the game he made his living from by offering to help recruit and educate minority group ex players?
