Tear in the eye
I appreciate him even more. The guy has a huge backbone, humility and way more talent than he is given credit for - he is exactly the kind of captain that matches our club ethics.

I hope he scores a ****ing worldly on Sunday, for all the ****s n giggles it would bring us and him. But I don’t care if he doesn’t . Credit to the man.

Okay, here's a one from me.

When he was at Arsenal I thought he was -decent, no more but no less. But he has turned out to be a worldy for us so far. Topf fella. HTL
He reminds me of a story about Arnie when they were dubbing Terminator into German and he assumed he’d get the gig. When they said he wasn’t he demanded to know why.

They sent a lowly German speaking assistant to break the news,
“Sorry but you sound like a hillbilly!” <laugh>

I think Xhaka just feels at home in a rugged old industrial town with rugged people.

Sunderland will be keeping a close eye on Granit Xhaka’s condition during the international break, after the midfielder was pulled from full training with Switzerland ahead of their clash with Norway.

The 33-year-old, now a key figure at the Stadium of Light, had been expected to start again after featuring against Germany. Instead, he has been left out of Switzerland’s latest session, with national team manager Murat Yakin confirming the decision is linked to load management and a lingering physical issue.

That situation raises immediate questions for Sunderland, who have relied heavily on Xhaka’s experience and availability this season.

Fitness concern emerges during international duty

Granit Xhaka was initially planned to start against Norway. However, that idea was scrapped late in the build-up.

According to Yakin, the midfielder is still dealing with the effects of a previous Achilles tendon issue. The problem kept him out earlier in the year and continues to require careful handling.

Speaking to Swiss outlet Blick ahead of the match, the Switzerland boss made the situation clear: Xhaka is struggling with the physical load and cannot start the game.

“He is showing the effects of a high workload. He cannot start the game,” Yakin explained.

That explains his absence from training in Oslo. It also suggests Switzerland are taking a cautious approach, especially in a friendly setting.

There remains a chance he could feature briefly. Still, the priority is avoiding any unnecessary risk with their captain.

What this means for Sunderland.

Granit Xhaka’s situation will be closely monitored by Sunderland’s medical staff once he returns to the club, even though the player himself recently played down fears over his condition.

The midfielder has been a regular presence this season. He has consistently logged high minutes in all competitions, reflecting his importance both tactically and as a leader. But that workload is now catching up with him.

For Sunderland, the timing is not ideal. The business end of the season demands stability in midfield, and Xhaka’s ability to control tempo and organise play has been central to their approach. Therefore, even a minor setback could force adjustments.

At the same time, there is no indication of a serious injury. Switzerland’s stance points more towards precaution than panic.

Next steps for the captain.

Granit Xhaka’s involvement against Norway remains uncertain, with a substitute appearance still possible.

More importantly, Sunderland will be hoping he returns without any aggravation.

The key detail is that this is not a new injury. It is a managed issue linked to previous problems and accumulated minutes. That should offer some reassurance.

Still, with Xhaka now 33 and playing a demanding role, moments like this may become more frequent. Sunderland may need to plan accordingly as they balance short-term results with long-term availability.

Probably the wrong video to comment on, but the tone of his voice sounds like when he speaks and whoever hears it would stop what they are doing to listen to what he has to say.
