Think it started as more of a wider discussion with me n Kalman about why the younger players aren’t getting at least on the bench
I’m not calling them youth players it’s ridiculous makes them sound 14.
But there doesn’t seem to be a way forward for them
It’s easy to say they aren’t good enough but we see other clubs playing theirs all the time
Some clubs just don’t seem to do it
And we are one of them.
And the wider point was what’s the point of our academy then?
I certainly wouldnt start a young reserve on Saturday at full back but certainly don't see any problem with one on the bench. Take Wadsworth for instance, he looks solid for the U21s but we know its a massive step up to the first team. He is 21. If he is on the bench and we are 3 or 4 up, throw him on there and see how he copes. He might surprise people or he might look totally out of his depth. At least we would know. McCarthy is in the first category, he looked good from the off.

Brentford are also sandwiched in a very tough position to recruit better kids from, then keep hold of them until they reach first team level.

Hull is a much more local place. Academy is an essential part of the club regardless of how many it’s brought through in the last couple of years. It’s not so long ago everyone who knows much about it was singing the praises of a few of them (Ash, Coyle and Brown) how much of that is down to their families in the former two I don’t know.

Also didn’t McCarthy just arrive here in the summer? Don’t really count as an academy product, he’s just a young player we signed.
Have it on good authority Serg demanded he play in the first team quickly before the academy ****ed him up

Sergej mentioned on his interview that Wednesday play with two number 10s. He's said that a few times about different teams and each time it's been his reason for playing the back 3 system. I doubt any of us want or expect to see that shape on Saturday but him saying that does make me wonder.

Are there any actual rules about buying tickets in the South Stand due to
it been the 'family' stand ?

Can you just buy 6 adult tickets for that area ?

The approach to the Academy changed not long after Dublin found his feet, and Hodges was obviously part of the subsequent changes. I guess it takes time for things to come to fruition.
I heard rumblings about Sellers when watching U21's; don't know if there was any substance or not, but he hasn't particularly impressed me when I've been watching (seeing how he goes about things, how he interacts, etc).
I think a few of the current crop have a decent chance of a career in the EFL, but only McCarthy currently standing out as nearest to ready imo. Thinking Brown, Moore, Ashbee, Shehu, Tinsdale, ....

Here's one for ya, if there's such a gulf between players at the top of the game and those kicking about in reserves of even non league how come Mansfield, Macclesfield and Grimsby managed to beat Premier league teams.
Maybe there are players/just as good but never get given the chance. See Jamie Vardy for example, and the 16 year old who came on for Arsenal.

Just bored of it all and playing devil's advocate.

Where did I say that he should never have played for us?
If you think he's a championship level left back I'd suggest you start watching something else other than football.

I just wasn't quite sure why undermining Rosenior's ability as a manager had anything to do with a discussion of Jacob's prospects in the team.

I'm also not quite sure where I said he should be our starting LB, just that he's capable of doing a job.

I don’t think formations really matter. If we fail to win it won’t be because we played a back 3.

If we play a back 3 we'll likely have Millar LWB and Drameh RWB so all of the discussion will be moot as we'll have two players in positions they play well.

Surely those that are 19+ should be breaking through if there's an indication it's ever going to happen? Koumas is only 20 and he's already played 76 games in the Championship, Hughes is 22 and has 82 Championship games under his belt, and even Gyabi just turned 22 and has 74 Championship games, for example. If you're coming up to 21 and aren't even in the picture for a decent loan in League One, is it ever going to happen?

I've always found it interesting that some of the older under-21s players seem to be given a pass because they're collectively seen as too young for the first team when players like Sayyadmanesh, who was only 20 when he signed for us, was written off by a lot of fans almost immediately when he should still have years of development left if judged by the same metrics as the under-21s.

This is what blows my mind and my point earlier about Parker. I don't know why we don't throw these guys on for 10 minutes at the end of games we have sewn up. Some players rise to the level and actually play better at a higher level than they do in the u21s. You just don't know until you actually see them play. If Parker had come on against PNE when 3-0 up, the worst that happens is he misses a chance, or is nowhere near it and we win.. 3-0 and then we know how much he needs to work on. Granted, throwing a defender on can be a bit riskier, but McCarthy came in, had a 'shocker' against Blackburn when the whole side had a shocker, but came through it and has looked good in subsequent showings.

When does this happen? Other than Preston away I must have missed them.

That's the one I've referenced a few times, but we've had other games we've been reasonably comfortable in coming into the last 10 minutes - Millwall away springs to mind, Wrexham at home another.

So for five years various managers have gone to the academy manager
Need a cm rw lb to cover for a few games? Who’s ready?
Academy manager: nah they’re all ****

Manager: ah ok carry on keep up the good work
Don’t know why Conor Sellars is still coaching the under-21s.
