This.

Mind Thatcher called the miners the enemy within despite them being fundamental to winning WWII.

Some on the right have very short memories
There was me thinking the victory in WW2 was largely down to the Russian military and the overwhelming firepower of the Yanks.

Without the miners of the UK none of that would have been possible.

During World War II, Durham miners played a critical role in powering the British war effort, often working in dangerous, wet, and cramped conditions.”

Mining deaths between 1890 and 1945 were around 12,000.

Deaths between 1939 and 1945 were around 6,000.

I think it's safe to say that everyone who contributed to the war effort in WWII, no matter how large or small, or seemingly menial to some, all contributed to the victory and without every single one of those people, victory would have been considerably harder.

A good friend of mine whose father, was a soldier, landed on the beach on D Day.

My own father (born 1929) was in the Boys Brigade, they were tasked to patrol the Tyne's shipyard in the evening enduring the blackout etc. Ie putting fires out when bombs were dropped.

So when you hear some folk whinging about their lives today and how bad everything is for them... they haven't a fcuking clue about previous generations.

Would hate to go to war with the current generation mate. As former ex military myself with a get it done any way you can attitude, I would dread to think what state we'd be in.

The miners lost more men in WW2 than most regiments.

Is a man's life worth less than another's in wartime ...

I'm in awe of the housewives who took off their pinnies, rolled up their sleeves and learned how to build ships, make munitions, work the land etc. The role of women is often overlooked when people talk about the war effort.

I've also wondered if we went to war now, how many people would sign up into a role that helps the cause.

Yesterday ...
  • Trump stated that the US no longer needed British assistance, adding, “we don’t need people that join wars after we’ve already won!”
Today ...
  • Trump called for multiple countries, including the UK, China, Japan, France, and South Korea, to send warships to the area to help end the blockade.
The man is absolutely clueless, Putin will be laughing his head off.

I think he's working on the theory that the more wars he starts then the more wars he can end and maybe, just maybe get his Nobel Peace Prize
I think it would help The Orange Turd to actually remember ALL the so called wars he ended...and It would really help if he could pronounce the names of the countries that were involved.
On a side note, I look forward to Infantino awarding the Next FIFA Peace Prize to Benjamin Netanyahu ..seems an obvious choice to follow on from Trump

Displays your ignorance then. They certainly weren’t the enemy within or sharing war secrets like some of the royals.

The US should be embarrassed at electing this very dangerous and stupid human being.

The bloke in North Korea is the nuttiest on the planet and he has nuclear weapons. They claim that nukes are a deterrent so those that don't have them aren't allowed to deter the yanks or Russians for bombing the **** out of them, then invading. Trump always had this planned long before he became president, he would have still got a load of support had the electorate knew about it. Because America is built on a gun culture, since we've left they haven't been invaded and other than terrorists they haven't had war on their streets. He insulted all of our military regarding Afghanistan, he isn't a military person himself, and his posse are exactly the same. We done nowt in Afghanistan, they don't need us when wars are won, they were the first to torpedo a ship since the second world war, Pete Hesgeth, "The only thing prohibiting transit in the strait right now is Iran shooting at shipping. It is open for transit should Iran not do that". Every single comment that comes from The Clockwork Orange and his cronies are imbecilic, non factual and outright disrespectful. He will come calling for our help at sometimes, make no bones about it and I hope we tell him to **** off. I want our military to be feared, I want them to be there for us, defend us from those who wish us harm, just not be there for some disease riddled peadophile, who wants to control the worlds oil, and is hopefully on his way out. And to think he started off with Tariffs and claiming the "Gulf of America", which back then got the worlds hackles up, who would have thought where he has led us to today

Throughout the last century there's been some terrible egotistical leaders.

Sometimes they've had very unpleasant character traits but they were what was needed at the time. Churchill was a very unpleasant man, in many ways, as was Stalin for example. Yet, despite their actions and those of their enemies, they somehow managed to maintain a glimmer of respect for those they were fighting against. They seemed to be able to grasp the basic notion that the general population weren't all evil monsters but were often being guided by them.

The German public were basically just ordinary people trying to get on with their ordinary lives. They may have been 'the enemy' but weren't portrayed as targets for mockery. When I see the absolute lack of respect Trump has for the Iranians it makes me wonder how he can put himself up as their saviour.

His latest 'quip' was horrific and shows his total disregard for human life, the man is supposed to be a Statesman ffs.

"Donald Trump said on Saturday that the United States may carry out more strikes on Iran’s vital Kharg Island oil export hub “just for fun”, rejecting the prospect of a swift peace deal with Tehran."

OMFG, really? Spend millions of dollars just for fun. It's like a millionaires playground isn't it. Everything he says, he tries to get a dig at some one, laughs at them, he honestly thinks that people will love his supposedly funny character and forget that he took advantage of children, "just for fun"

What I can never grasp with the likes of Trump, Farage, Boris, etc is how witty people find them.

In reality none of them have ever come up with anything that's actually funny ...

... I defy anyone to post anything that wasn't obviously scripted for them to trot out.

Boris proved that being an embarrassing bumbling oaf is only funny while you can pretend people are laughing with you ...

... not at you.

With Trump there is a pattern. If he REALLY cared about rogue nations, surely he would go after the likes of North Korea ( an obvious one) Somalia, Sudan, Syria, Back to Afghanistan, Pakistan, ETC
But NO....this moron goes after Venezuela, Iran and he's even mentioned an action against Nigeria. ( given the hideous nations in Africa the question is why Nigeria)
The clear answer is oil.... He want control of the oil supply, and simple. It always has and always will be about money and Oil is where the money is. This guy must be stopped ASAP
