I actually thought Matazo would be fit before Belloumi after the latter’s latest injury.

Matazo’s original ACL injury was forecast to rule him out until December. I know he had that setback but it’s kind of mad that he will have been out injured and not played any professional football for at least 15 months.

There was also talk at the start of the season that he would return fairly soon too.

I do worry he'll be nowhere near the same player - not that we really know how good he is anyway

Gutted for him, fortunately weve options in cm and hopefully better for him long term to have a proper preseason that. coming back now and having a belloumi type situation.

Matazo was named on the bench for Millwall so presumably he must've had to be added to the 25-man squad for that to happen, and Belloumi must've been added to play at Wrexham so I don't think we have a space for Akintola any more, unless we can get permission to replace Yu Hirakawa as has been mooted.

That's annoying if that's the case.

At least we will have crooks back, collyer and halloumi. So will start to have plenty of options

Need to get Jarrrrrlo back for the build up to the play offs.

As soon as they said he felt some tightness and he was left out as a precaution you knew it would turn out to be a significant muscle strain. That sequence of news must've happened 10 times this season.
It's also frustrating as it's always reported as "no need to worry it's just a precaution" which just feels so dishonest.

because that's exactly what they thought at the time. No need for more drama.
I (over)heard it as good as from the horses mouth on Tuesday at the U21 game.
Obviously the follow up (scans or whatever) showed something more.

It happens consistently. Crooks was held out against Chelsea in the Cup I think? Or a game around then out of precaution, then all of a sudden he was out for a month. I'd rather the journos just not say anything until the scans are done than saying "Nothing to worry about". It's why when Slater's option gets activated and Baz says "This is good news!" it's hard to believe him.

Did they actually say "nothing to worry about"?
I do recall the word being used was 'pre-cautionary'.
They report on what they know at the time.

How it was actually reported:
"Matazo was named in the starting line-up but withdrew with some discomfort in his quadricep as a precaution, and therefore didn’t take part in the game. City were loath to take any risks with the Belgian ace, more than 12 months on from the ACL injury he sustained in Cardiff last February. He made his return to action last Tuesday at Peterborough United’s training ground, playing 30 minutes for Conor Sellars’ side before being named on the bench for the first team’s game against Millwall last Saturday, but didn't get on. The plan was for him to play an hour on Tuesday, with a view to potentially being involved at West Brom on Saturday, but that progress looks to have been checked now."
