Off Topic Winter Olympic

Ooww, I've been waiting for this...

Men's team move closer to the final. In fact we're curling one out.
At the risk of betraying my feminist credentials I get some pleasure from the repeated determined cries of ‘Hard… hard’ from the women’s event. Or at least until they then shout ‘Curl’ and it all gets a bit niche…

Hurry!!!!!! I can deal with the one.

Thought we’d managed to steal it back with that 2nd last shot. Fair play to the Canadian guy for that final shot he made.

Just an observation, could be a good topic for a debate down the pub. There are 93 nations competing in these winter olympics, 73 of them have won no medals at all. Why do some of them bother?

I guess you could say that about many things in life - playing the lottery, for example. The innate need to compete, perhaps.

Norway broken their own record of number of golds won at the winter Olympics, Sweden had a shocker again.

Anyone watching?

Lindsey Vonn had a massive crash last week, getting airlifted to hospital and suffering a complete rupture of her ACL and other damage.

7 days later she is on the qualifying gate, wearing a knee brace and ready to compete in the downhill skiing having completed a training run.

Not sure if that is phenomenal determination or phenomenal foolishness.

Think we can probably go with phenomenal foolishness.

Someone really should have given her head a shake.

She completely refused to take the doctor's advice because she knew better .
Short of strapping her in a straight jacket what would she do .

Did you watch her video?

If she hadn’t ruptured her ACL the week before, her surgeon wouldn’t have been there, and if she’d had the same crash she would have lost her leg. Or so she says, in sure there would have been another capable surgeon around but who knows.

People debate whether she should have competed, or if she would have crashed with a fully functioning left knee but the fact remains she was one of the fastest in training, one of the fastest in qualifying, expected to finish top 3 and her crash was caused by being too tight to the line, not because her knee failed her. She’s also no worse off for the ACL injury as that crash would have ****ed it anyway.

I say fair enough to her decision to compete, I think most people would have done the same in her position. She’s got however many years ahead of her to make boring safer choices in her retirement.

Definitely went out with a bang.
