Granit Xhaka has described this Sunday’s Wear-Tyne derby as the biggest rivalry match of his career.

He told the Premier League’s media team: “I had many rivals as well in my career, but I think this one will be the biggest.

"Let’s try and give the fans and the club something big. We have one objective, and it’s to win the game.”

Hopefully Granit will have the lads focused with his vast experience. Hopefully we do nothing daft.

REGIS LE Bris has backed Simon Adingra to bounce back from his African Cup of Nations disappointment and go on to become a "great player" for Sunderland.

Adingra was voted as the Best Young Player at the last AFCON tournament but was this week left out of the Ivory Coast squad for this year's competition, which gets underway next week.
It's a blow for the 23-year-old and follows an underwhelming start to life on Wearside after his summer move from Brighton…

"Simon is a really good player and he's young," said Le Bris. "So, it's just normal to have ups and downs. And at the minute, probably he played less. In this national team, the competition is really high, so if he has less game time, it wasn't a big surprise to stay in Sunderland.

"The project is always collective and individual.

"For me, it's a shame for Simon because I would have liked to get him with the national team. But at the same time, we know that we'll support him and he will be a great player for Sunderland. I'm absolutely convinced.

"At the minute, he needs support. He will have game time because we'll have less players. And I hope he will be in the national team for the World Cup."

What a supporter told Regis Le Bris about derby

HE'S yet to experience one himself, but Regis Le Bris already knows exactly how much tomorrow's Wear-Tyne derby means to Sunderland fans...

"Supporters have been talking to me about it [the derby] since the first time I came here," said Le Bris. "Even at the beginning of this season, a fan told me, 'If you beat Newcastle, you can go back into the Championship'. I'm not sure about that! But I know it's really important for our fans."

It promises to be an incredible atmosphere at the Stadium of Light tomorrow, but Sunderland's head coach will try to be the same as he always is - calm.

“You don’t know what happens inside me, and I won’t explain," he laughed.
"But I always try to be myself – nothing different. If I am like that, I am not forced to be something different.

"It is not that I try to be calm but I like to be in control, be connected with the events and try to work out what is best for any particular scenario, for the next step and what I may say at half-time. If I became too excited, maybe I would lose this connection with the game.”

For Le Bris, there'll be one overriding emotion when he takes his place in the technical area ahead of kick-off.

"I'll be proud," he said. "And happy to be in this place. It's a privilege to be part of this club and to feel the momentum of the club. It's a positive. To be part of this process and story is really important for me."

He's tasted the joy of winning promotion, but what would it mean to Le Bris to guide Sunderland to another famous derby victory on home turf?

"I don't know, we'll see after I hope," he said. "I'd like to think we'll win but it will be tough, so I don't anticipate. I try to prepare the team properly, to work hard with the staff and we'll see."

Great sentiments from RLB, Adingra needs to keep taking his chances to play and he’ll do well.

I’ll be honest, I’ve no clear idea of what style Newcastle have, it seems a bit chaotic to me. Every time I’ve seen them it all seems intense and aggressive but a bit hit&miss tactically. I’ve faith in RLB and I think he’ll have sussed how best to confuse Howe.

I just hope we see a controlled and clever game from Xhaka & Co.
