    75
  • Poll closed .
According to Slott, we only won because of a deflected shot, completely ignoring the fact that their goal was an own goal.
For my part, I couldn’t be more proud of the squad, a fantastic performance which deserved more than 1 point, and chuffed to see LON get on the pitch at Anfield, the look on his face at the end was precious.

Oh wey at least he admits we won :emoticon-0105-wink:

Brilliant interview and a proper role model for any youngster. It's never just about him, always saying it's a team effort and praising everyone else.

The lad could have scored a hat trick against Liverpool and his post match interview would still be about the team.

BTW, the Isidor chance was a borderline penalty.

Chiesa pushes Isidor and you can see his direction change ...

... and it was in the area.

Why no VAR?

I agree. The push may well also be why Isadore didn't try and slip it past the keeper and instead went round him. Chiesa is lucky enough to be on the keepers right hand side when Isadore has to go to his left, so has basically a straight line to run to the goal line to be able to get back and cover while Isadore is forced slightly wider before he can turn and shoot.

They'll argue that because Isadore stayed on his feet and got a shot away that it shouldn't have been a penalty, but it's a challenge that has affected a goal scoring chance and I bet if it was the other way round Liverpool would get a penalty for it.

It beggars belief how much crap is thrown at our club by pundits and other teams ‘supporters’ to explain how incredibly lucky we are to be in the position we are in.
Apparently, according to the Sky pundits last night after the game, we were only able to sign the players we did this season because other teams wouldn’t touch them because of Afcon.
Crass stupidity and a total lack of respect for our club.
Well if other clubs are that short sighted that they wont sign good (young) players for the sake of 4-6 weeks they may go missing, then long may it continue. Also, what do they think of all the other other non Afcon players we signed - what is there excuse for not signing them? <confused>

Isador normally just hits it, and hard, straightaway. Probably would have been a penna if O9 did that to Salah.

In the post match analysis they had a close up of Chiesa grabbing Wilson's shirt and pulling him back, which clearly put him off his stride.
The Liverpool supporting pundits didn't even mention it, if that was reversed they would have been jumping up and down demanding a penalty.
One of the main reasons I left the robbing bastards and got Virgin Media <laugh>

There's something desperate about the way Sky cling on to the belief that the Anfield atmosphere is phenomenal ...

... they even commented on the Kop when it was the Sunderland fans singing <laugh>

They mentioned it all through the game and kept inferring our players would be intimidated by it, absoute nonsense.

These are all tough aggressive lads chosen for that reason. Implying that 'inexperienced kids' like Hume and Ballard would be affected is ludicrous when they've captained their country, played in WC qualifiers, excelled in the play-offs and a massive game at Wembley ... a much bigger deal than last night.

And it's almost as if coming back fron 0-2 against Bournemouth a week ago, in front of forty thousand supporters, never actually happened.
Good post. I think a lot of your opinions in match threads can come across "us against them" im regards to Sunderland and the media, but you are absolutely correct.

Its old cliche ****e from them.

Its sort of like when us fans whip out the "typical Sunderland" jibe. It hasnt been typical Sunderland since Reg took over.

This is what the premier league is all about, playing the big boys in their backyard and showing them what real support is all about. This time we go there with a good chance and playing well, not often that’s been the case in my lifetime. Im not going but will sit with a beer and just enjoy it for what it is, the lads rocking up to strut their stuff at Anfield. Thanks RTB once again for another fantastic thread

That's the spirit. And we could of won that fooker. Show's how far We've come when I'm pìssed off to lose to Liverpool at anfield.

Loved seeing the onion come on but was heart in mouth. I said to my lad "he'll either give a goal away or score, if he scores for us I'm going fooking mental".<laugh>

A massive “well done “ to your team, they were excellent last night and have been the stand out team in the Premier League so far this season. You have two massive games coming up but if you play like you did last night, you could win both. The best of luck especially in the derby, it is great to see Sunderland fans enjoying the Premier League again after all you have been through

NBC pundits Tim Howard and Danny Higginbotham have heaped praise on Sunderland for their gutsy performance against Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday evening...

Speaking on NBC after the final whistle, Howard said: “Well, you know, you have to credit Sunderland. We talked at half-time, it was 0-0, it was nervy. Sunderland get the goal to go ahead. Even then, defensively, Liverpool didn't look great on that play.

“But yes, they're at home - I talked about the Anfield crowd - they're going to will their team to push forward. Sunderland at that stage, even though they're a newly promoted team, and they've done really well, this is still a gimme for them. So they had the ability to go 1-0 ahead and say, ‘Okay, well, we're going to hold out here, and if we win, we win. If we draw, we draw’. But that's still a good result.”

Higginbotham agreed, adding: “Yeah, and one of the biggest things you see, you saw the players walking off the pitch then for Sunderland - obviously got the smiles on their faces - but then you look at [Granit] Xhaka, there's the disappointment that they didn't win at Anfield. And that tells you where they are at the moment. And I think what we've seen with a number of teams this season is they prioritised defending. Sunderland are key to that. You look at all the players playing in this team for Sunderland... I'm sure you've played with some wonderful defenders, but you also played with some defenders that didn't necessarily want to defend. They wanted to go forward.

“This Sunderland team, they love to defend. They love to defend. They love to put their body on the line. You see all the different players for them, and they have adjusted to the Premier League unbelievably well. I think what sets them apart from a number of teams in the Premier League is that they still value defending, and there's a number of teams that don't. So Sunderland are going to be very, very difficult to beat because of the manner in which they go about games.”
