https://www.independent.co.uk/bulletin/sport/ian-wright-jude-bellingham-worried-b2869050.html Ian Wright has defended England international Jude Bellingham on The Overlap podcast following media criticism over his perceived reluctance to be substituted, and admitted he is “worried” for the midfielder. Wright argued that the backlash against Bellingham is rooted in racism, suggesting his self-assured demeanour “frightens” some people, while claiming some are not “ready for a black superstar”.
I wasn't alive but I reckon Ali would have experienced plenty of racism! Bet plenty considered him "uppity" consdidering he reufused the draft, was a civil rights activist etc...and the time period and being in America who had segregation etc still. I'm sure Wright used the word uppity! Which I think is more an American thing? I think Wright is trying to say if ya quiet and get on with it then you will be fine, if ya cocky and self assured the media will go town on you! Don't think its a race thing though? The media love to pull a celeb down, it sells! They have done it to plenty of white players aswell.
I absolutely hate iit when some people rush like hell to find their racism banner, and then can't wait to wave it about like some kind of loose cannon. No matter of your colour, we proud indigenous Brits have always had a fair saying - 'If you're good enough, you're old enough' And therefore, in some cases, some folk call it racism agaist the indigenous Brits....
While my first reaction is that this is ridiculous... Given all the reaction to the poor lads who missed the penalties a few years back, it's safe to say there is a whole of of racism in the English footballing fanbase. I think Jude makes himself quite difficult to like at times and I'm sure most of the people who dislike him don't really care about his race. But I'm also pretty sure a whole lot do.
Thats lads colour is utterly irrelevant, he's either a great footballer or not... I actually think he is... but his attitude is very questionable, and this has nothing to do with the colour of his skin... Much like Barton, Bellamy, Zlatan, Balotteli, El Hadji Diouf... etc etc... Really unsure why people rush to jump on the race card... This inflames racism, it doesn't help at all
I have spoken on here a lot of times about my views on race religion etc. and while these things do have a bearing on how people perceived other people I think we have to be careful about how often we construe it as a reason or an excuse. People see me as fat and bald, which I am, so if they are judgmental with that because of political or other views that is wrong. They stole be taking my views apart not my appearance. Suggesting people are not ready for a black superstar is ludicrous and a flippant comment. It is probably more of a racially motivated comment than what he is trying to highlight. Basically he is highlighting something that is not part of the conversation and never should have been, which is itself is a racial comment. There has been a black president, black superstars of sport and film, black film directors and black billionaires. Stupid comment from a man trying to frame a situation on skin colour that has nothing to do with it.
Similar to above comments, I have also criticised Wrighty and that female pundit who decide not to speak correctly....ie, not pronouncing 'TH'. Instead, they use the words - Togever, Firty Free, Birfday.....and, "I Fink he's from Norfumberland" Kids copy these pundits now. I was called out as racist, yet I never ever refered to skin colour because there is other skin colours, including whites, who are also speaking the exact same way...
He lived in a world when racism was widespread but he also had white people eating out of his hand. His colour didn’t hold him back. It probably is a crap example though, and I stand by my point that Jude Bellingham is rightly judged as an outstanding footballer not on his mixed race heritage. His father is white and comes across as a cheddar helmet, is that racism.
I was only picking on Ali as probably not being the best example due to the time and where he lived! I don’t think it's got anything to do with racism, the media have always loved to drag England national team and the players down. It used to be drinking culture, but as that isn’t as prevalent with the modern player they happy to look for anything else! Breaking lock down rules, shagging grannies, shagging escorts but it must be slow recently as they want to convince us Bellingham has an attitude problem and didn’t celebrate or whatever the **** the big fuss is about! The best players have an attitude and don't want to be subbed!
