Good. Should have sold him in the first place, or kept him here this seasonYou must log in or register to see media
Bringing in a new goalkeeper in January would be good, but I don't see it happening. If it didn't happen in the summer, then unless an unexpected opportunity was to present itself, I don't see January being any different.
The issue with recruiting any player in January (excluding U21 players) is that we've now reached our 25 man maximum. So any incomings would need to be offset by outgoings. If there is a clause to terminate Long's loan, then that actually would be an easy way to make space for a new goalkeeper, but I don't know if that exists or not. And it doesn't help us with recruiting outfield players, assuming we want three senior goalkeepers. We need greater success with finding new homes for Aribo and Edozie, otherwise it'll be a big problem. Matsuki would be the other player on the list who was barely featured in the league so far.
Ways around it. Downs loan. Downes sale. Edozie, Aribo somehow we get rid. Long termination as you say, and Matsuki. Sounds like we might need to find room for JWP as well, so...
Also U21 don't need registration, do they? (Not that we necessarily need more kids).
This depends on two things for me: how much Romeu is able to play and if the JWP coming back on loan rumours are true. I think Jander, Charles, Romeu and JWP (plus the likes of Sesay and Williams in an emergency) would be sufficient.Downs is on the U21 list (he only turned 21 earlier this year). So whilst I agree that we should consider loaning him out, it wouldn't help us create room within our registered squad.
Personally I would against selling Downes.

God, international midweeks are soooo boring, just wanted to post something/anything.If JWP did come back on loan, and if it came with an option/obligation to buy, then I would agree. But at this stage I think it's more a case of putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5. I would love getting JWP back in January, but I don't believe it will happen.

I think it is quite likely he will join in some capacity.
He ain't ever going to play for the hammers again and they still owe us money for him. There is a deal to be done.

Still not sure about this one. Though it would be goos to have 2020/1 Romeu and JWP in the centre of the park.
If the situation is that we could swap out JWP for Downes and net a few million in the process I would bite your hand off. It’s not a priority position, which is probably why there is a question mark on it, but I don’t believe it’s an either/or scenario in terms of our resources.
There are question marks over Downes when playing a higher energy style of football and on his attitude(wanting out last January), so if this was to happen he would have to be out the door
Not if they pay anywhere close to £20mWho is buying Downes though? We’re not going to sell him at a massive loss and we bought him for what? 20m a year and half ago? No PL club is coming in for him. Maybe Ipswich still want him but would be pretty dumb to sell to them.
