its def not a coincidence that as soon as coyles fit, he's straight in and we look more solid off the ball drameh is dynamic with the ball, but coyle just makes us much better when we defend of the ball and the way he crosses the ball really suits our taller players, and somehow gelhardt won his header for the first
We barely saw any of that crossing last season. I think Giles has a better delivery, but Coyle is more reliable at the back, especially defending the back post. A couple of vital clearances today. Drameh definitely gives us more going forwards as he can mix it up more, but if Coyle can keep putting balls that good into the box, then it gives us really good competition.
Blimey, have we finally got a squad and a manager we can get a bit excited about? It's showing loads of promise now. I do like the cut of Gyabi's jib, took a little while to get into the game but when he did he looked very useful.
I said it a few weeks ago, goals won’t be a problem with this team, as long as McBurnie and Geldhart stay fit, we’ll always be a threat. Today was the first time since the opening day I thought our defense stood up and did their job well, the rest of the team also contributed to a solid defensive display.
Well that was very enjoyable despite the weather. A clean sheet would’ve been nice for Pandur and the defence but you can’t have everything. If nothing else, it shows that we can be organised and difficult to break down defensively. It also shows Jakirović can live up to his reputation as a pragmatist who is flexible with his tactics. We can have 70%+ possession in some games and we can have less than 30% possession in others and still win both types of games whilst scoring several goals.
Awaiting the outcome of tests but SJ sounded relaxed about it, said it's a normal injury after returning from ACL.
Brilliant result and brilliant goals to watch. It won't always go that well when we have that little of the ball but everything went right today. We scored at crucial times. If we'd gone behind I think we'd have struggled. It's so important to be effective in attack and we were exactly that today. Great to see Coyle proving people wrong again, Giles showed more of what he's done all season, Lundstram was really good playing in a more box to box role than in previous games, and the goal was a gem. McBurnie being a threat in the air is so valuable, it makes it seem all the more crazy that we went this long without signing a proper striker like him. Destan also looked good in the air when he came on, which I didn't really expect from a Super Lig signing. The game was scrappy on the wet pitch which maybe helped us on the whole but it made it difficult for people like Gelhardt who want the ball on the floor and to run with it. It was important that we have so many powerful players today for all the loose balls and 50/50s.
Just read the Saints MDT, judging by some of their posts you'd be forgiven for thinking this was Man U v Grimsby
Just watched their goal via sky replys, fantastic finish, a few things had to happen before he had the chance, a swivel and slotted in the corner you just have to give him due…
I think it's just what he is as a player at the moment. We've got carried away with him because he obviously has real potential with his passing and his forward play as well as his power, but he's never been as steady defensively as a Jones, Macca, Greaves. He had a lot of weird moments today but it was things he's done before; seemingly losing his focus and getting the wrong side of an attacker from a big aerial ball, playing people onside 5 yards behind the rest of the defence. He needs to be a bit more focused and disciplined maybe. But maybe that's normal at his age.
Also, did anyone see Destan punching **** out of the dugout at full-time? I’m guessing it was in reaction to not scoring late on.
I did see him try to punch one of theirs on the deck, then put his head into their blokes boat....Lucky not to get a red with that whistle happy twat today.
