He’s covered that. By looking at crime reporting stats, the crime survey and other data like health reports it paints a fairly accurate picture.
The crime survey is where people are asked about experiences. Doesn’t catch everyone but it’s done in a way that is reflective of the nation- mix groups mix of places ages etc. https://www.herc.ox.ac.uk/downloads/health_datasets/browse-data-sets/british-crime-survey-bcs
There's nothing to stop someone reporting a crime. 'You cannot demand a police investigation for a crime you want to report, but you have the right to report a crime to the police or other authorities.'
Yes it is, and the perceived immunity from prosecution for stealing less than £200 of goods will be removed when the Crime and Policing bill is passed into law. Nice one Kier I'm sure you'll agree

The tories cutting 40,000 police officers had anything to do with this? Everything is Starmers fault though as the Daily Mail tells many. Hopefully this government will sort out the absolute Tory clusterfck they inherited.
Another topic to dicuss is as you say 40k less police many many low level crime not investigated yet still have the most people in prison ever.
It’s true about the police and the shortage of public services in Covid were noticeable but to be fair and balanced to the Tories, the violence reduction units, using a public health approach have done well to get crime down. Fair play to Labour for keeping them when often they get changed just for the politics. There has been a shortage in youth programmes however which is being addressed through the Young Futures mission. Interesting as Reform are saying ‘no one else cares about crime ‘ and ‘people arent safe’ yet a murdoch paper is saying things are less dangerous and it appears immigrants haven’t made us less safe. It appears he isn’t telling the truth. https://www.theguardian.com/politic...ge-on-uk-crime-how-do-his-statements-stack-up
And there has been significant downturn in rehabilitation opportunities in prison. Cuts to prisoner education etc. It creates a cycle. A prisoner less able to read is les able to comply and manage things like housing or find meaningful employment. Somethings working though on violence as it always dangerous.
Surely you should be tackling it at source not after the fact, how do you stop children getting into crime in the fist place should be main priority.
Invest in youth services, fund sports and arts sessions for teenagers ? On the doorstep and affordable
Another thing I would love to see is HMRC working with police full-time going after crime bosses, use the tax system to see if they have paid enough taxes for their living expenses, if they run a garage or barber shop are they making enough money for cars and houses they own. They would either have to put more tax through books or live a more frugal life style.
