Guns shouldn’t be banned. We are allowed them in this country. My next door neighbour has a few. They just need to tighten up on gun control over there as they shouldn’t be as readily available to everyone as they currently are.
Living in America I would love to see guns banned. At this stage it would never work so stronger gun control is desperately needed. I’ve lived here in a relatively safe North Carolina for 28 years and neither I nor my husband have or want guns. The indisputable fact is, if you own a gun, you and your family are more likely to be shot. Admittedly many deaths are by suicide, but domestic abuse and accidental deaths due to children getting their hands on guns is daily occurrence.
I had never heard of this bloke until yesterday. Didnt know what he did, who he worked for, what the speech was about, absolutely zilch. However " assassinated"! I thought that was a term used for leaders of countries such as kings, queens, presidents etc. He's been shot.
The dictionary definition is "murder (an important person) for political or religious reasons" ....now whether this man (whom I had also never heard of) was deemed "important" or not is one for the Politicians, but he certainly appears to be been murdered for political reasons. Although I see the Mail managed to shoe-horn a reference to trans in their headline today
There were 2,422 active firearm certificates(FACs) in County Durham as of March 2024, held by approximately 2,422 people, along with 5,234 active shotgun certificates. This equates to about 1,606 firearm certificates per 100,000 people in the county.
I've had my shotgun application in for almost a year now not heard a thing back from them other to say that im on the list and they will get to me ASAP.
I think a lot of it is who you know. One of the guys I know who goes shooting on a Sunday has an ex copper as part of the lads that go out together and they seem to be able to get people a licence quite quickly.
I went and did some shooting at a gun club in Vegas and I can tell you it feels instantly empowering and a bit exciting. Putting those 2 things together in the wrong hands is a recipe for disaster. A false sense of empowerment for someone who isn’t the sharpest is absolutely dangerous. This is a large proportion of Americans unfortunately. You can’t even call it a ticking time bomb, it’s a repeating time bomb you know there’s another one just around the corner. It’s not for the rest of the world to tell the US what they do, they believe their constitutional rights and amendments are sacred, and they have their rightful claim to that. As has been mentioned what they can do is manage conditions, control it. There’s a million and one ways to check people’s mental health and wellbeing nowadays, to at least have some inkling of they likely to be a danger with them.
Yeah but they would just use something else. They would pick up a knife, they would use a bat, murder has been happening for a long time? But cruel and stupid people will always find a way to exact their form of justice be it with a gun or not. The point is these people plan to do what they are doing and if it's hard to get a gun they will find another way. Yes gun laws in the USA are stupid and they allow stupid people to own guns, some legally some illegally. People say they have guns in their homes for safety (bullshit) how is keeping a firearm I your house safe? But if you are intent on killing another person they will use a gun, a knife a sword or just push somebody in front of a train. The method does not matter, what matters is these stupid people intent on causing harm to another human. Whether they use a gun or not.
Is that right that I'm hearing all the claims about the killer being a leftist nutter were incorrect ... ... will there be an accompanying conspiracy theory along soon. It's all very confusing.
The difference is that using a knife, sword or pushing someone in front of a train has two major disadvantages ... ... is takes a degree of courage and risk but they're also much less likely to get away with it. No one wants to risk waving a knife around and getting a shoeing.
Not sure anyone knows, but it will emerge. He seems to come from a quite well off family. He apparently inscribed "hey fascist" on his bullet. Not sure how you do a thing like that, but that is a common thing for left wing shouty people to shout. It's like a schoolyard insult, hurled at people you don't agree with or understand. This bloke was a nutter though, no doubt about that. You don't kill someone because of what they are saying.
I think the point is that the kind of people we are talking about are intent on causing harm or death. Lee Rigby is no less dead than Charlie Kirk or that young girl on the train. The problem is that people whether they are mentally stable or not feel they have the right, or feel the need to exact some kind of justice, or whatever it is that is going on in their heads on another human. I guess if it's easy to get a gun then they will use a gun. But if a gun is not available they will pick up a machete and use that! The method of delivery on the whole can change but the outcome remains the same. Gun laws abhorrent as they are did not kill Charlie Kirk a boy with a gun did. A girl on a subway had her throat cut by a man with a knife wo was intent on killing somebody that day. 2 people lost their lives for no reason. Arguing about gun control masks the real problem with society as a whole. People (whether mentally ill or not) belive in some way that what they are doing or plan to do is right or justifiable and that their actions are OK.
Yeah the guy was a leftie and the killing was politically motivated. He hated Charlie Kirk because of his right wing views.
