Me too but the daughter is gluten intolerant and the son doesn't like pasta so to add insult to injury it was a gluten free pizza place. Tomorrow however we are off to Murano and I refuse to eat anything other than proper Italian pasta!
Terrible disparagement of pizza going on here. Proper Italian pizza in Italy is glorious - and usually cheap! And if pizza is cheese on toast, pasta is flour strips in a sauce! Can’t even be bothered with the yeast!
Always wonder how much better the food tastes in Italy. Have an impession of it being so much better than is offered in Uk. A trip to Rome would be ideal. History, food and football ! Perfect.
I`m in Sorrento at the moment - Scott McTominay flags everywhere! I`ll be back in time for Sunday though! I was at the last skates game at SMS - I was gutted at the last minute equaliser, but it turned out OK, as it set up the last game drama against Coventry and the euphoria that followed. What a great day that was - AberdeenSaint Jnr joined his first ship as engineer cadet the following day, and Mrs AberdeenSaint was there too. One of the best days of my life!
I made a Borscht with beetroot, carrots and potato from the allotment. Argued a bit about whether onion should go in a Borscht, then watched King and Conqueror with my partner, who like William the Bastard, is from Normandy. Harold Godwinson did a lousy job of stopping the boats 1000 years ago, tbf.
I defy anyone not to be utterly stunned by the pizza I had in a tiny trattoria in Piemonte once. It was sensational.
I think a food thread is a top idea. Proper Italian pizza is amazing Proper Italian pasta is amazing In fact Italian as a cuisine pisses over all others. Again this is something I am totally and utterly right about
We once said we'd holiday in different places so as to not be one of those families that only ever go one place and over the last 10 years or so we have been to sardinia, sorrento, rome x 2, venice x 3, como, garda.... I have to say that the venice policy of picking up your trash on a daily basis by knocking on your door and asking for it is interesting but I'm sure that there is something for them to learn by our system of only picking it up in a big plastic bucket once a fortnight if you put it out early enough and in the right place and they don't decide to ignore it for no fathomable reason.
I don’t need convincing that the best cuisine is Italian. To bring it back on topic I do have an Italian flag and don’t feel like an ignorant bigot if I were to fly it in Naples. But I would if I fly my Cross of St George without a football tournament here.
