Midfielders of

Slater, crooks, lundstram, hadziahmetovic and gyabi looks a lot better than last two games

And an injury to one of them wont completely kill us like the crooks one did

I just feel like he's vary rarely actually delivered on the pitch, if we could get our money back it's down as a failed gamble for me.

I also think after yesterday Sergej will be more pragmatic away and play a 6 and two 8's rather than a 10 to protect the defence, so there'll be much less need for Palmer.

I agree. Bizarre signing to begin with. Didn’t suit Walter, who Palmer was initially signed for, didn’t suit Sellés and now seemingly doesn’t suit Jakirović.

The era of mercurial number 10s is over and has been for a while. Özil was the last one at elite level. All modern number 10s are basically attacking number 8s now anyway. They’re expected to create and score goals but also to graft.

Yeah he was the definition of a panic buy because he was offered wasn't he. Made zero sense at the time as Walter didn't play with a 10!

Agreed on 10s, Gelhardt will maybe get a pass but he's basically a support striker in this system isn't he, looks like a 4-2-4 a lot of the time.

If Lundstram, Hadziahmetovic, Gyabi and Crooks can show some discipline as the 2 it could work to be fair.

How come the window shuts at 7? Isn’t it normally 11?
Having said that, why do people leave it to the last minute anyway?<confused>
Other than to have their drama played out on SSN that is!

Sure I heard it was to ensure that the suits don't have to have a late night, trying to work out what the feck just happened.

Yeah. In the modern game, most ‘number 10s’ are just attacking number 8s like Ødegaard, De Bruyne, Bellingham etc., former wingers who are creative enough to play as a number 10 or second strikers like Rogers at Villa or Gelhardt. The Özil-type is redundant now because teams can’t carry luxury players anymore as the game has become more intense. As much as I loved him, Koren would struggle in today’s Championship for the same reason. The Championship is quite different to what it was 10-15 years ago.

I agree with some that we need to maybe play a more defensive midfielder instead in most games, but they'll be moments where we need a bit of creativity and Palmer can change a game. I'd like to think if we let him go, we can bring in a young, low wages attacking mid on loan to replace him.

Palmer does some good things but then is equally bad at the easy stuff.
As suggested when he signed, he’s too inconsistent.
He was a panic buy because as suggested he didn’t fit Tim’s style. Reuben never found a role for him either.

With any luck we can get Laalaoui sorted and he could be that wildcard option.

Gyabi’s contract runs out at the end of the season, can’t see why Leeds would loan him out and let him walk away for nothing. Surely a club offering cash to buy him would be favourite.

Maybe no one is offering cash?

They might have a one year option, so if he does well with us can extend and sell him.

Koren was an attacking number 8. He might have been small and sleight but he still put the shift in, that’s basically why he was so good.

Apart from the ridiculous turnover of players every year, is there anything still relevant from the 2024 thread? I see there are a handful of posts today.
