It does raise an interesting point about how often clubs bring in managers who are not best suited to the existing playing squad requiring substantial further investment. And not just with usI know, I know. Just saying. It still stings.

He’ll only have one year left on his contract in a year’s time so your point doesn’t stand.I don’t quite agree with point one. A season in the championship where you’d hope he’d boss it would absolutely increase his value, especially at New Year where at least one team is usually desperate for something. If he had a great couple months from now to January he would have been snapped up for £45 mill in the New Year but I’d honestly rather take 35 and some first teamers if that’s the plan here.
Not really my point though, it would have been nice to have been more prepared for the start of the season. Now we have to adjust and figure things out a month into the season. I wouldn’t mind as much if this was a rarity but we’ve been late to do business in the last 3 or 4 seasons now and I might be being generous there. I’m pretty sure when we went down last time we still played the first few games with JWP, Tella and Lavia in the squad because we are always so slow to do the things we need to do. This isn’t a one off and that’s what is frustrating on top of not really doing much so far.Good thing we have 43 more games to go.

Simple, tell them to get ****ed.Athletic are reporting this morning that Fernandes is still West Ham’s number 1 target this week.
Have a feeling that this will go to the last day and then leave no time to replace?

Kinda want us to sell Fernandes now for slightly sadistic reasons; the meltdown will be a joy to behold![]()
You’d like to think this would be the case, but hasn’t been that way so far.Unless we sign a replacement FIRST, SR cannot sanction Matty's sale. Simple as that.
We didn't sell Lavia for that when he had 4 years left on his contract and we value Matty in the same ballpark. The optics for selling him for that would be terrible.I am still pretty sure that we will sell him if an offer reaches £38m+
I think Lavia had a higher reputation in the game and we had two of the big four/six (Chelsea + Liverpool) outbidding one another to inflate the final price. There's no sign of that this timeWe didn't sell Lavia for that when he had 4 years left on his contract and we value Matty in the same ballpark. The optics for selling him for that would be terrible.
Well then don't sell him. It really is that simple with 4 years left on his contract. West Ham are a complete mess - would Fernandes really kick off if he didn't get his move there?I think Lavia had a higher reputation in the game and we had two of the big four/six (Chelsea + Liverpool) outbidding one another to inflate the final price. Their negotiations when selling players is the only area I really have faith in SR - if they **** this up then fans will be fuming.I think if we sell Fernandes for under £40 million, questions will need to be asked of SR’s intentions.
As per my earlier post about sales, salaries etc, we should not be needing to sell any players now, though that isn’t realistic.
If you take our net spend last year in the premier league, and add in the business done so far this window, as a club we have only spent around £8-£10 million pounds on transfers over 3 transfer windows, as we stand this morning.
I think he is holding out for someone other than West Ham at present, but I don't know what Fernandes will/won't do, although his agent is Jorge Mendes, so I don't feel that great about that...Well then don't sell him.
