Yeah, I've read that report too. In both cases, though, we're relying on Guehi and Isak still wanting to come to us in Jan/June 2026. Atm, we're on the crest of a wave after winning the Prem (despite the sad loss of Jota) and the whole world and his wife wants to come here. But if we struggle this year to adapt to all our new signings - which is a price I'm well prepared to pay: God knows I'd have moaned about it alright, had we not used this window to buy as we have done - then both lads could view other options. There's talk that Barca could be after Isak next summer at half the price we're offering, for instance, and every club in Europe is eyeing Guehi. It's a strategy that worked with Virgil all those years back, but I'd still rather we had those deals over the line after what happened with Zubimendi last summer. Mind you, that was the previous regime - it wasn't Hughes and Edwards, so fingers crossed.
Guehi would be a nice to have but I don’t see him as a real top class CB. Do feel if he wasn’t HG or had 12 months left we wouldn’t be as keen on him. Hes a solid give you 7/10 most weeks which is fine but not going to transform the defence. Isak would be icing on the cake up top. we do look short in wide positions though beyond gakpo and Salah - does feel it’s a wait and see if Ngumoha makes himself a viable squad option as season progresses and if Frimpong can provide a different cover to Salah on the right. If we are lucky with injuries then we have 14/15 players that can easily step in without huge drop in quality. But still feel a couple light at the moment. I said since day 1, city to me are favourites. Bad year last year but still have Haaland, Rodri back and they’ve strengthened really well with new FB and more creativity up top and reinforcements in midfield.
Great additions but we’ll rightly be asking why on Earth we flogged quansah, Diaz and Nunez without replacements and left ourselves short
They had the token pretend trial- now they're hoping we all forget about it so they can sweep it under the rug and nothing ever happens. Neither City nor the PL really want City to be punished because it wouldn't look good for the PL. It's going to keep being delayed until noone cares and then maybe one day a token fine applied.
We've replaced Quansah with Leoni. I'm not sure who Ekitike replaces but he definitely can't replace 3 players on his own. Rodrygo and Fofana being linked and Slot has said that we need another attacker so hopefully we have a few irons in the fire.
I think he may have to be. I don't think he's been bought to sit on the bench although I guess that's where he will start out. Gomez and Konaté have shown they can't play a full season of league games let alone 3 other competitions so he'll definitely get a good amount of games.
Frimpong out with a hamstring injury until after the international break. Looks like Gomez at RB then.
