On Dan Neil , his form under Mowbray was sensational, but he has fallen well short of that level since , in hindsight maybe asking of him to fill the DM role was not a good idea, or captaincy for that matter, I wish him well whatever lies ahead. Maybe signing his contract here might be the best solution, showing up in the Premiership and playing like he can, could be a win win.
I'd love to see it but I'd be less gutted if he goes than I thought I would. I'd only be dissapointed cause he is one of ours through the academy and a lads fan! His form over the last season means I'd be less dissapointed from the actual football point of view, especially when it looks like we have signed players who will push him out! I'd love him to get the bit between his teeth sign a contract and play is way back to the first team and being one of our better most reliable players! But from what others say on here doesn't sound like this is where his heads at and hasn't been for a long time. Some on here have made noises that he was looking at the exit door as far back as a year ago I think! It come across as he thought he was prem quality and didnt expect us to get there and has maybe backed himself into a corner and now we are there and our transfer business has pushed him down the pecking order and reality is no other prem clubs are interested. Can't see him signing for any prem teams and being in the starting 11 when looks like he isnt even that here anymore!
Well aye obviously we didn't sign 13 players for the starting XI . Was just saying from a squad harmony standpoint there was still a massive turnover.
I think he value has dropped as a result of being in his final year. If Hackney is £20m I would say Dan is similar level. But final year means clubs will get him much cheaper. I think we could be seeing him go for around half that personally, maybe less. I have no idea on the money situation but I imagine if he is a cheaper purchase price maybe he gets a bigger signing on fee or salary.
I have thought for a while he may end up at West Ham. Not beyond the realms he comes on for last 5 mins, gives his shirt to a bairn and says his goodbyes I suppose. Might even do a Watson and curl the winner in to ingratiate him with his new teammates
Not play for a year, poor, relatively, salary, no transfer fee for club, unhappy player around the place. Pretty bad potentially.
I think you could be right about his value. Mind, I don't think that will stop us selling if we need to recoup as much as we can.
Dan Neil can **** off, all the backwards and forwards in the world doesn't detract from the fact he doesn't want to sign his contract.
Perhaps. But it might also be worth wondering how much his move to the periphery is due to him not signing a contract. And for well over a year now.
Don't you think that would mean it ends badly? One bad outcome would be if Neil refuses a new deal, runs his contract down, doesn't play or look interested, leaves for free and signs for Boro ... ... all guesswork but, then again, quite possible. There'd be an endless discussion about who's to blame and would leave a bad taste imo.
Can't be right, sorry mate. I distinctly remember that Mag with the porn tash shouting 'BOOM' when Newcastle were signing Sesko ... ... although, to be fair to you, he did keep shouting boom every time Trafford and all the others we're supposed to sign.
Could happen and would be a poor ending for him. I dont see that though personally. If he is on a free clubs higher up will take a chance. I would imagine europe beckons in that world. Maybe he still has a Watson moment left? My rather simplistic view is the club dont want to pay him what he thinks he is worth. And that is still a guess. Neither party are right or wrong in that. But the club now need to get him away, even if it is only from a money situation perspective. There has long been interest in him, we may have to take the hit as a club and accept a fee lower than we would wish to. That is my guess as to what happens, he goes this window, for a fee or even a loan with obligation if a club cant afford the fee now. Hopefully soon, would be good to be talking about something else tbh. And I say that as someone long obsessed with Neil the footballer.
He will surprise a lot of people, he's a very good player who just keeps rising to the occasion whenever he makes the step up. Plus he is vital for team morale and the young players
