The lad is a Sunderland fan now, and that's fine be me mate. As for cash money, I think we'd need a couple more seasons in the big time before we spend anything close to that amount on 1 player.
Any decent CB, with the chance of being well paid and playing in Europe for a team in the top half ... ... would be mad to come to Sunderland with little chance of winning a major competition and being guaranteed a relegation fight. The club are performing miracles to attract the players we've already managed to sign.
I think we will have interest in him, we have for years, but i think we will have players above him on our list - might be one we revisit later in the window
Aye possible. With the club in the hands of the top table like it is today, I believe they do everything in phases, starting in leauge one to present day to the future
You said it would be extremely poor by the club. Imo, club are obviously trying. It would only be extremely poor by them if they hadn't properly tried
Yeah, that’s just my opinion, if we start against West Ham with seelt at centre back or jones at left back, then I think that would be very poor preparation by us in relation to the defence (we’ve done very well in all other areas). This is just hypothetical of course as I don’t think it will happen and the club will sign a centre back in the next week. Of course they will be trying and trying hard, but KLD appoints people like Ghisolfi and speakman to deliver and I’m confident they will as they have all summer so far other than at centre half. Still plenty of time
How is it poor preparation? Do we sign a centre back for a stupid amount of money just so we have one? The coaches rate Seelt very highly so why not give him a chance? Will it really be the end of the world if he starts a week Saturday?
No it won't. And people shouldn't get too carried away that how we perform against West Ham will define our season. We'll be a work in progress right up to deadline day imho. The club are doing just great.
Might be worth lowering our criteria just a tad to make sure we get the players in. Similar to what we did with Roefs after Bulka and Petrovic
Not getting centre backs sorted could be the difference between getting 6 points in our first 2 fixtures or 1 point in my opinion. My prediction is that we get Lucemi once Bologna gets Heggem and Ryan Mason to call in a favour at Spurs and cover the loss with Vuskovic on loan. I think we'll get it done just before West Ham.
It might, but then again it might not. Especially as we've absolutely no idea what the club are planning ... ... for all we know we might be bringing in two excellent CBs. This is all pure speculation so the club can't be criticised in any way can they?
It would be poor preparation (imo), for a premier league club, especially us who have the biggest challenge of any, to go into a season with 2 fit senior centre halves despite knowing this for over two months. No, we don’t sign one for stupid money if the club doesn’t feel it’s right, but they have shown they can get these quality deals done with the midfielders, the wingers and now the keeper and striker. Asking Seelt who couldn’t start in the championship and hasn’t played a competitive game for well over a year, to step up in the premier league is a huge ask. Doesn’t mean he can’t, doesn’t mean he won’t contribute this year but it’s not the risk I personally think we should take right now. It wouldn’t be the end of the world if he started next week, but I’m hoping we have a top quality centre half signed before then and let seelt either be eased in in time or loaned out for more senior minutes.
We were the very last PL club to know where we'd be playing this season ... ... other PL clubs are less well prepared than we are. We don't only have two fit CBs, why do people keep saying that?
Absolutely. Can’t make clear enough I’m very happy with where we are, how we’re are operating and the summer we’ve had! It’s been excellent. It’s just one position that I’d like us to strengthen and as I’ve said, I think we will do so in the next week.
I don't see that as lowering our standards. We signed a younger keeper with a lot of potential. It's just a different type of player. Less established and more of a risk.
