What do you mean by OK though? Just that you thought it couldn't be enforced or that it's actually allowed?
I think there's a big difference and I think it's dangerous that this information about the tolerance is passed around if it leads to loads of people aiming for 35 because they believe it's legal. You obviously give up any room for error doing that and lots of people will be routinely driving more dangerously than they could be as a result.
I know I'm an uncool bore saying it, but driving standards bother me. I don't like a lot of the conversation around driving, the way people get frustrated about having to follow rules or about getting caught. We have so much responsibility to not put others in danger every time we take to the wheel but people are incredibly laid back about it.
Why the rush? If you drive at 35 rather than 30 you will probably get there less than a minute earlier. It’s barmy.
True
Calm and patience is the way to go
If need to rush
Leave earlier
Fact
I don’t speed in residential areas, at all. Motorways the speed limit should be increased in my opinion. Even if it’s 80mph in the dry and 70mph in the wet. They operate a similar system across most of Europe 130kmh if dry 110kmh if wet.

Yes, where I’ve just driven back from. Driving in France is brilliant. Everyone pulls out and returns to the slow lane once they have overtaken. Shame the same doesn’t apply on UK roads. It would clear a lot of congestion issues.Think that’s only in France
I agree, it's brilliant, for one simple reason, there's less traffic. Obviously cities have traffic issues like anywhere else but outside that there's just far, far less traffic.Yes, where I’ve just driven back from. Driving in France is brilliant. Completely trueWhy the rush? If you drive at 35 rather than 30 you will probably get there less than a minute earlier. It’s barmy.
I get that. I would argue until the cows come home that both of mine were not me driving recklessly or being a nob and speeding, it's a real fine line in the early 30sCompletely true
I wasn’t rushing, but had just come off a roundabout and accelerated on the other side.
Modern cars accelerate fast and are quiet and it’s a fine line in 30’s
Generally I use cruise control to stick at 30 or maybe a little quicker if traffic is going up to 32 or 33 and I’m doing that when I flick it on. Never more than 33. In fact I did this then too (and it wasn’t residential, it was past fields on both sides) but I was going 35 when I flicked it on and braked but it had already spotted me.
Having said all that I was wrong and that’s entirely my fault.
