I apologise for calling McLean the 'Barn Door'. All of you buyers into this fantastic talent, please accept my gracious apology. I shall now rename him the 'Hangar Door'. For those of you who are not in the business of hangar doors, these are much much bigger than barn doors, and are so much easier to hit because of their sheer size, because they house aeroplanes and helicopters, rather than the odd cow or bull. I am sure that all of you will agree that the strike record of 2 goals (albeit against Scumthorpe) in 10 games is HIGHLY impressive, amounting to 0.25 of a goal per game. Now I dont know about you, but a quarter of a goal ain't that good to me ! I can't remember any game being won by a 'quarter' of a goal. But, just to add a little spice to our goal machines impressive record.......why has the manager decided to sub him on the hour mark for the last 3 games? Any of you experts know? I said it at the start and I say it now. WASTE OF SPACE.
Ridiculous comments you clearly can't spot talent, OK maybe he won't prove to be a prolific goal scorer but he will score goals at this level and in my mind is a lot better than Simpson who somehow scored 15 goals for QPR apparently once.
Why are you singling out Mclean, Fryatt was quiet the last few games? Scapegoating players helps nobody, get behind the lads, we can still sneak the play-offs, losing against a team like Cardiff is no disgrace.
Harsh to extend your criticism of him after today's game, don't think he had a sniff of goal. His ratio isn't brilliant but it's not like we're providing him with chance after chance every game. I think today's game if anything showed we still need to work on the midfield and hold the ball up better in advanced positions.
Why not try giving the lad a chance to settle in and show what he can do? Too much to ask for some people.
Why not look at why he has not scored and that is down to the supply and the fact that he has had to create his own chances and do all the work himself. Why do City fans have to moan? Lets back the lads!
I seem to remember all our American Fans (now non-existent) saying the same thing about Altidore after his 28 game stint for 1 goal. Jozy continues to sit on the goal line waiting for supply after 3 appearances with Villareal (no goals) and 2 appearances with Bursaspor (no goals) where he 'did a Folan' and is now out for a month with an ankle problem.
Much as I dislike the tone the OP has used at the top of this thread, I can't really argue with the sentiment, Mclean doesn't look good enough for the Championship. He works hard, but his first touch is often poor, as is his passing and you can't get away with that against any of the decent teams in this league. If we want anything out of the Forest game, then I'd like to see Fryatt partnered with someone else, ideally Barmby(for however long we can get out of him) and Harper definitely needs to go, he barely completed a single pass yesterday and definitely lost the ball more often than he won it(and he's still pissing me off with his short socks and baggy top!).
Although Mclean hasnt set the fans ablaze with his goal tally, he works very hard for the team, and causes defenders problems, he will score goals when the service comes. As already stated MF did not have a great game yesterday but we know he will score again and soon. Give the current squad a chance they are young and still learning their trade.
No I didnt, but I thought I would round it up, to make him look a little more potent. Did you do maths at school ?[/QUOTE]
I suggest you look at the work Mc Clean puts in for his team mates and also look again at his superb pass for Fryatts goal against Leeds.
the more i see of him, the more he reminds me of ***an..never let you down for effort...not enough ability for a top of the championship side, will need replacing next season for a genuine assault on the promotion race IMO..
Agreed, plenty of heart, not enough skill. Been saying this from the start, his first touch is often poor which is a shame coz alot of the time he only takes one touch, he often over-weights his passes, and his finishing is fairly suspect. His work rate is great for the team but the more I watch him the more I think he's not suited to this division, alot of our attacks seem to break down as soon as the ball reaches McLean, and I'm not having a dig I'm just stating how I see it, I don't think he's good enough at this level.
It's not all about being the most creative player in the side though. There's a lot you can achieve just by working the defenders and winning headers. We already have an overly light-weight, skillful side, if anything we lack some hard workers and physical presences. We wanted a target man didn't we?
McLean didn't have his best game on Saturday but I'd give him a bit more time to adapt to us. I watched the full game again on Tigers Player and Cardiff defended very well indeed and didn't give us much of a sniff on goal, against lesser teams I can see Mclean having more of an impact, and it's good to see him getting in the faces of the opposition, not like ***an who is a bit of an idiot usually in the way he does it.
