Also of interest today was Abbott bowling to a 0-9 field. All 9 fielders on the legside... He bowled a maiden.. I have photographs,.. first time I've seen it in nearly 70 years of watching cricket, and many years of playing..

Well if we can get one more wicket in the next 9 overs we can at least salvage 2 bowling points before we bat.
All nine sides batting first have now gone past 350, after Essex's snore-fest of a run-rate finally gets them there. Kent and Middlesex could both yet join Surrey and Worcs in going past 500.

700 up for Surrey and still batting. I wonder if teams know they're not going to take 20 wickets and are making a point to the ECB! 
I don't know if it will be us, Durham, Northants or Leicester, but I am expecting at least one side to fail miserably when it comes to batting. Mainly because of how tired they must be after so many overs in the field, in his heat.
TBH I'm not sure declaring at tea like Worcs have done is that good a call. Either declare 45 mins or so before tea or give it another half hour or so after tea. This way, at least the openers have had 20 minutes to take on refreshment, have a rest and get their minds ready for batting.

How can 2 of their players make double centuries and none of our top order even make a 50? OK so Varma is still in but I have to question the commitment of some players. Gubbins has been crap all season for example. Honestly, the team needs a complete overhaul reset. 113-5 off 50 overs is pathetic. OK so we're looking to bat long rather than score runs. So we shouldn't be anywhere near 5 down in that case. We need more attacking batters. The days of grinding out runs are gone. It's fine to have someone anchoring the innings but our approach to batting is boring to watch and not producing any results. Need to get a more attack minded coach in. The signing of Stoneman was just an example of the negative mindset taken - him and Gubbins batting together is like watching paint dry quite frankly. There needs to be a complete change in mentality and it starts with sacking Birrell ASAP.
