It'll come down to who performs best in preseason, it's all about having a strong squad - can't have enough matvh winners in your squad imo so having 2 quality LMs is a very good thing
I’m the same as you. It isn’t that I don’t think mundle can be upgraded, they all can, it’s more the fact we have a limited budget (whatever that is) and I’m just assuming we’ll bring in 5 or 6 to go into the 11 that will take up the majority of the budget, of the lads I thought we’d have to hope can step up, mundle would of been one for me. The linked lad can play across the front 3 so that’s a bonus. Like the sound of him.
If the link to the goalkeeper today is accurate then it’s clear there is zero sentiment from those in charge…..whilst I think some can step up I’m all for that type of approach.
I wouldn’t say we do have a limited budget. I think we are gonna shock many with how much we are willing to spend. (obviously they will be a limit but not as little as some probably think)
It’s not a squad game with Reggie mind! Also the whole ‘two complete XIs’ idea of squad building isn’t really the way clever teams do things. Better off having versatility and adaptability throughout. Be interesting to see if Lauriente can provide some too.
Remember there still may be sales as well. There’s a hypothetical scenario where we sign this new keeper for £17m, sell Patto for £10m, and then buy a second keeper for £2m. Net cost is “just” £9m and we’ve gained a solid sub keeper and upgraded in goal, all whilst massively improving our PSR position by getting “pure” profit for Patto As I said earlier, I’m a bit sad Patto wouldn’t get to be our first choice in the prem, but the scenario above is something I can see happening.
I’d say nearly every PL club have proper depth in every position. Could maybe get away with it in the championship but defo not the PL
It will be limited to a point though. Think we’ll all be happy if it’s £100m after Enzo but that only covers 5 £20m players if we go the route of focusing mainly on ELF type purchases.
But not slavishly sticking to two XIs. Even the very best teams have a trusted core who are turned to more than most. They don’t only replace positions like for like.
Of course. I reckon if you go onto the Sunderland website and take a look at the squad there’s a lot of holes now loanee’s are gone.
