Money talks and the ceiling of success is higher for a club like Spuds and obviously more prestige. I think he'd go there if offered the job.
This is the part where it's so difficult to know what is happening behind the scenes, and where the instinctive response will be to blame SR. If, for instance, DR is our number one choice, and we've approached him, he may now delay any decision for a bit, which in turn makes SR look like they're not acting and our fanbase kicks off. The choice then is, do we bin DR as an option and go for a second choice Gerrard type person (fanbase kicks off) or do we give him a deadline of July 1st or something (fanbase kicks off because we haven't appointed someone, what is Spors doing, another useless hire by SR). These things are complex. Not saying SR have a lot of rope left to play with, but it would be good if we remember that it's not often a simple process.
The point made on TSP regarding a delay was that about when the compensation is no longer a factor. I agree with them that just signing Rohl now, before the end of the season, and paying whatever compensation is due without haggling, gives us so much more time to start planning the clearout and rebuild which any new manager is going to want. If it’s Rohl, he will already have a fair idea about what he wants to do, so let him get his feet under the table before the window opens.
In an ideal world, yes. But as the pieces move around, his decision might get delayed, which isn't the fault of SR or whatever. Let's see though. Exciting times ahead.
No but this is the attitude that sleep walks you into the position we are now. Yes changes deserve time but SR have already made numerous changes and we have given them 3 years of time so far and the result is the worst squad in the clubs history. How anyone can say "exciting times ahead" is bordering on delusion in my opinion. They have had months to plan this summer and who they wanted in or out of the squad, including the managers they would be interested in. If it gets a month after the season is finished and we still have no manager I think the fans have every right to complain about that. It would be a ****show.
I’m happy with my delusion. I think the prospects for next season are exciting. Seeing what Spors has up his sleeve, an overhaul of this dreadful squad, a new manager and the prospect of actually winning games. Why would that not be exciting?
Its an odd one to describe, because yeah you can't compare it with our Champ and L1 sides. The Championship relegation side were better in the Championship than this side are in the PL, which means it has been a tougher season to follow. Probably better to say it is the worst side we have ever had against the league they are in. Its been the worst season to be a Saints supporter in a footballing sense (no administration issues etc).
I think we should do a deal with Burnley whereby we agree to pay the compensation they are going to pay Parker after they sack him two weeks into the new season now, so that he can just come to us straight away and continue his 100% Championship Promotion record.
Whilst SR have clearly been bad overall the one thing (from a football perspective) they appear to have gotten right in their time here is their DoF hires. Shields was hired and poached a couple of months later by Chelsea, Wilcox left after a successful season to Man Utd. They ****ed up by not appointing another football person quicker after those two left which culminated in the two relegations, but on the surface I’m willing to back them with their appointment of Spors.
Totally how I see it. They were so naive to think they could be promoted and recruit a Prem quality squad without replacing the 2 most important people in the process of highlighting talent and signing them
G I would use the word 'interesting' as opppsed to 'excting.' Next season will be a lower half of the table. Stability is more important than excitement in the next season. I will go for promotion in 26 /27 when we can all enjoy pipping Leeds to their return to the Premiership !
I wouldn’t be unhappy with an enjoyable mid table finish with a push for the following year. Really hated the last two seasons in the Premier League, and looking forward to a couple of enjoyable years without VAR
Must be May as Ian is predicting us to be mid table in the Championship, Liverpool to struggle and (soon) the return to greatness of Man Utd
It will only be enjoyable if we finish above Portsmouth. I want to see Saints in Prem and properly competing.
