Which is great, for him. Doesn't mean he's going to be a good fit for us though. The rebuilding job this summer is going to make Russ' "scar tissue" pre season look like a walk in the park. It's far far too big a job for someone that inexperienced. Besides his results since Jan have been shocking. After this season us fans deserve someone ready to go with experience of getting a club promoted. Not some guy who might have potential and is a cheaper option
To be fair, the managers who were promoted last season were Maresca (first ever head coach job), McKenna (first ever season coaching above L1 level) and Martin (zero promotions and spent most of his time in the bottom half of divisions, mid-table if you feel generous). Farke, with multiple promotions, failed to go up with perhaps the best squad of the lot

Yeah managers, like players, are so hit and miss. It’s almost like what they’ve don’t at previous clubs is irrelevant as to how they’ll do elsewhere, especially at our level. It’s all about minimising the risk as much as possible for me at this current time. Take all the risks when/if we are back in the PL.
Saw a stat that Burnley have now achieved promotion the last 4 season they were in the Championship, doubt that’s been done before and reinforces the gap in quality that they have been able to do that
Yeah, I find it really hard to judge for that exact reason. Burnley stat is crazy, because I've never been overly wowed by them apart from the Championship Kompany season, but even that felt very unsustainable (and then they made some weird decisions in the transfer window that followed, IMO)
Co.mon denominator. Dyche twice I believe. But us fans won't entertain the idea. Football engages strange opinions rather than facts
We all accept certain players are not good enough for the PL, many never will be. It has to be the same for managers/coaches. If Warnock was good enough in the PL he would have managed a top 6 club looking at his record of getting teams promoted.
Ipswich fans feel McKenna has made some terrible decisions this season, they’re happy to stick with him for a promotion push, if they finish top and keep McKenna will he have learnt a lesson.
Southampton attracting a coach of a certain calibre today, compared to attracting a coach should you finish top two will be an entirely different kettle of fish. It should be horses for courses, you don’t need a PL ready coach, you need someone who knows what it takes to get you out of the Championship.
Parker at Burnley, a fantastic promotion based on the most boring defensive football I’ve ever seen but he got the job done, he’ll come massively unstuck with that in the PL. If I were a Burnley fan I’d certainly be hoping for a new coach

If we ever appoint Scott Parker as a manager I'm jumping off the Itchen bridge. There's no point getting promotion if we've all been bored to death beforehand. For me, it's not all about promotion. I want goals and excitement as well. Maybe not as extreme as what Martin delivered admittedly but constantly winning games 1-0 won't cut it for me.
Good job you weren't a Gooner fan in the late eighties/early nineties as that is how they won the title. I bet the fans were royally pissed of with that

I would have taken a few 1-0 wins this season. Sure, we are all hoping to be entertained by performances as well as results next season, but perhaps a more defensive approach in the PL would have helped this season.
Yes but I was talking about the Championship where we will have one of the best squads and one of the biggest budgets. Completely different scenario to the PL.
Bit of a myth. The Arsenal title-winning sides of that era outscored everyone else in the league.
I remember watching them trounce us 0-4 at the Dell. Absolutely outplayed us.
Our fans still sang "boring, boring, Arsenal " lol

It is different but I think Burnley will have a better chance of survival under Parker than they did under Kompany. Unless you are thinking we hire a manager to get us promoted and then replace him when we are up? The ever-widening gap between PL & Championship is making managerial recruitment upon relegation even more difficult
I was there with my nipper for his first visit to the Dell. He was most impressed by the jumbo hot dog it was longer than he was wide.
You don't need to be ultra defensive to survive in the PL. Good recruitment, flexible tactics and scoring enough goals are more important.
Defence and clean sheets are definitely more important than scoring goals in surviving, at least recent history suggests so.
Luton outscored Forest & Everton last season, yet went down because they conceded more than anyone else (aside from Sheff Utd). The season before that, Leicester & Leeds both outscored than every single team in the bottom half of the table, but they went down because they had the worst defence in the league (aside from whoever finished bottom that year, can't remember who that was...)
I left out this season because all 3 clubs are so bad that they have the worst goals scored and worst goals conceded
I agree with both view points - and it's why I'm surprised at the negative responses I received when I first suggested Farke on here.
We shouldn't need to play boring, defensive football to get promoted next season. We should, hopefully, have a very strong Championship squad which can be a joy to watch. But equally, getting that promotion is not guaranteed and therefore that I believe should be our sole focus next season. We don't need to worry about PL survival until we're back in the PL, which might not be 2026-27 (though hopefully it will be).
And that's why, if Farke was to be available, he would be the obvious choice to me. His Championship record is incredible, and unlike someone like Parker or Dyche, his football is enjoyable. That seems like the perfect Championship combination to me!
If Leeds go on and win the Championship next weekend, it will be his third Championship title in his five career Championship seasons (and he wasn't too far away from winning it last year). In all three of those seasons, the side in second will have conceded fewer goals, but not scored anywhere near as many.
However, the chances of Leeds sacking him in the next few weeks is incredibly remote. And it's for the same reason why I said last year that I understood why SR didn't sack Martin after Wembley: because doing so would be incredibly harsh and could only be justified by avoiding relegation in the following season. What is far more likely is that Leeds will initially stick with Farke, with a possible sacking around October/November time if they don't start well.
