Earlier in the season at a less crucial stage I would probably have enjoyed it for what it was, a good tense hard fought game of football. But with so much on the line it was torture. Still two more (hopefully one but we'll see) to go too

That 2nd half was huge
Really fear for the the future of the club if wed lost this game

Aye
It was an open game with both sides looking to go forward though ans I found it much more entertaining than many games.

For what...?... we didn't score in open play again, we couldn't defend a corner. We conceded first again.
Agree.
Thankfully the ref gave us both shouts (and none of theirs). Without that we'd have lost as we are still hopeless up front. I don't get it. We were never free scoring but we've gone backwards in that respect. Coyles and Maccas 20 odd yarders were about it? Nowhere near good enough, and we certainly can't expect the same out of jail cards again on Saturday.

As someone who has been fairly confident that we would stay up all season - I have to admit at half time I was really worried. The first half completely passed us by and we didn't look like we could ever win a game again. I was even more concerned as all the other teams started scoring.

But that was the second half that I really needed to see. Some battling and a bit of passion to drag us back into it. Its given me a bit of confidence again that the team has it in them to go on and secure safety.

Amrabat summed up the game perfectly. All action in that second half and he dragged us up the pitch so much. You can tell he once had some quality and caused a bit of chaos in their box - which we haven't done anywhere near enough of recently.

Selles earned his money today at half time. One big effort on Saturday and we'll be safe. Even a draw leaves it in our own hands until the final day when hopefully Pompey are thinking about not getting injured for the summer.

I don't think we were lucky today, but we struck lucky (there is a difference).

We've been on the wrong side of some appalling decisions recently.

Today both calls were correctly called as penalties but you wouldn't have been surprised to see either or both of them waved away.

Us getting them both doesn't change the fact that the standard of refereeing in the Championship for the last few seasons has been dreadful.

Three points 'simply massive' for Hull - Selles
Hull City boss Ruben Selles told BBC Radio Humberside:

"I know in this part of the season things become so tight and emotional that every moment and action is crucial. At the end it was a fantastic feeling.

"In the second half we showed what we want to be. We showed a lot of character.

"I'm happy for the boys because they have been working hard to get the points and we didn't get as many as we wanted or as we deserved but it doesn't matter right now because the attitude has always been good.

"The three points today is simply massive to keep us with the two-point advantage and gives us the belief and feeling that we have been trying to find."

Preston North End assistant manager Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"The performance was ok to a point in that we controlled parts of the game and got a goal.

"I'm not biased, I'll be honest when I see things, I spoke to John Egan before the game today and they got a penalty given against them on Friday that was scandalous when the ball hit his face. Today we have had one given against us that is nowhere near a penalty kick.

"I think he gets the second one right but the big decision is the first one because it gave them the momentum."

Must have been some words of inspiration from selles at half time

We looked dead and buried going into half time

They need to go out on Saturday and take it to them from the get go, with the mentality of winning the game. **** taking it to the last game when they don't have to. Their efforts today made achieving safety before the final game a possibility and they should go out there and realise that possibility... That should be the message and mentality they absorb/promote over the next few days.

I do think the results today won't happen again though. I can't see all the bottom teams picking up points another two times on the bounce, so in theory we could just as easily whimper out and get away with it. Would be nice to finish the season and stay up with some impetus.

Agree about 2nd half
But joseph was shocking in the first
Every touch and pass went to waste
Wasnt just him though
We collapsed after they took the lead

Noticed it too about us being out very early for kick off
Selles must have absolutely laid into them

We started 2nd half like a runaway train
Disagree, Joseph played a lovely pass over for Amrabat that he’d have got on the end of if he wasn’t 38, few nice one touch chest passes too

Oh totally agree - even if Luton lose in the early kick off we should be aiming to win. Makes it easy if we do.

To be fair to Joseph he kept the pressure on them a lot and the way we were playing there wasn't much more he could do in my opinion. I was far more disappointed with Alzate, Gelhardt and Slater giving it away repeatedly when in their positions they have more options. Gelhardt and Alzate were shrugged off the ball 3 times each in that first half and Slater could barely pass to a team mate and was largely at fault for their goal. Gelhardt made up for it with the penalties at least.

If Joseph was pissing chances away like Twine did for us then fair enough, but when we're not creating any all Joseph can do is put pressure on and pull defenders away, which he did well.

There was a moment after their goal where the crowd got a bit anxious and the players looked nervy. I think the HT whistle certainly helped for the first time in a while.

Not saying he didnt make any passes
Would be horrific if he didnt

But his first touch was so poor a few times especially

I think we have to lean into our strengths these last few games. Joseph and Gelhardt will run until the game is over and run some more for good measure. Against teams like Preston or Derby which may not be the best at playing out it’s probably how we scrap our way out of this. I believe both our pens came from turnovers in their half

I agree
I even wanted him to start today

I was just extremely frustrated we were losing and it seemed like we were going down
And then his touch was like a 50p coin whenever he got the ball

Admitted i was too harsh after the game

Joseph wasn't top three MOTM standard today but he contributed towards us winning and no mistake.

His pressing and running is really good; that leads to mistakes by the oppositions defenders and prevents them setting up good attacks.

Defending starts with your forward line when the opponents have the ball.

He had a good game; worked his bollocks off; spoiled things; made a nuisance of himself.

They also serve who only run and block.
