Good lad that James Maddison ... came through our academy and already has an FA Cup winners medal ....

Couldn't agree more. Well said.Because something wasn't fair or something, obviously.
they were allowed to, that’s why they had a massive wage bill.
Even Newcastle were fairly successful until TV money. You mentioned commercial growth and I answered the question.
Having already spent money and continued. I know people like to bullshit themselves, but without money none of that ever happens.
There's a reason why certain clubs wanted to run away from competition and its because they know fine well they ain't running classes.
"Fouth most successful club over the last decade and half, and you ****ed it up.
Fourth most successful club over the last decade and a half, and you ****ed it up."
Again if they were allowed they would have bought better players and would not have been relegated.
Nobody is growing success out of a tomato bag.
when was that successful period. Was it when you were bankrolled by John Hall in the mid to late 90’s?
Big money moves for Speed, Peacock, Sir Les, Tino, shearer…even Cole was a big money signing g at the time

Spot on Munse - and the Big clubs can raid other clubs academies too ... coz they can offer wages beyond anything the incumbent can ...

No I have consistently said, up until a few years ago when footballing money and chasing the dream was having a negative impact on clubs (going into administration etc.), the rules were the same for all. Complaining that for most of a club’s existence they haven’t been able to take advantage of it, it not someone else’s fault, it’s the club’s relative mismanagement.Even Newcastle were fairly successful until TV money. Really, there’s no evidence that that would have been the case. Remember, when you were being ridiculed by Fosse because there new training ground would attract superstars, how did that pan out?Again if they were allowed they would have bought better players and would not have been relegated.

We sold Sir Les just as the money went big. No real danger of relegation before the season we went down then never recovered while absolute ****e like Coventry and Southampton escaped by the skin of their teeth every year.

That was a very small period of time like 3 or 4 years in which we went from almost being relegated to the old 3rd division to almost to winning the title in around, so money equals being better at playing football.
If you look at a small period for time it will give you less information than a larger one, so full history is the best source for interpretation.
The all time biggest spending clubs all just happen to be the most successful.
Look at man City then or Chelsea.

big clubs just splashing the wages and taking the best players sadly.
