Think it's that time of night you get a room with Syd. If you're interested in my view on the academy? I think if we put the best local talent alongside the best we can bring in then that's kinda the point of an academy.
Out of interest where in the world are you? As it’s 7am in England so it’s not night, unless you’re that pissed and because it’s dark you think it is.
He was. I’m shocked to see he’s at Gillingham. I honestly thought would play regularly at a higher level.
There is mileage limit as to how far kids can travel to an academy so Hull based kids shouldn’t be able to travel to Leeds. That also reduces our catchment area.
It's not a mileage limit, it's a travel time limit and for 13 to 16 year olds it's 90 minutes, so Leeds and the Sheffield clubs can pull lads from most of the Hull area (a bit more difficult for under 13's as they can only travel from an hour away).
Trumpton Tiger asked: Who was the last young player from the Hull/East Riding to come through the Sheff Utd Academy and make the first team? Now compare those figures to those who have done the same at City and gone onto to make a first team debut recently. Leeds don't fare much better than Sheff Utd either but they have had one or two over the last twenty odd years. We've had more 'rejects' from Leeds Utd Academy play for City though. You replied: Andre Brooks, Ollie Arblaster, Femi Seriki all 3 this season. They’re comfortably the best cat 2 academy up north I think you've missed the point of the question NT! 2 of those lads are from Sheffield, the other from Manchester ... i.e. none of them are from Hull / ER. I think TT asks a fair question there - who are we 'losing' / who have we 'lost' to Sheff U and Leeds U acadamies to back up the theory that parents round here look to send their kids to those academys ahead of their local one or that the best are poached by them. As I posted earlier, that certainly was the case decades ago, but I'd question it nowadays.
There’s quite a few from that region we were tbf. Zan Celar - QPR Vipotnik - Swansea Bozenik - didn’t want to come to England
It’s definitely more a case of if you were wanting them to breakthrough in the football league you’d go there. They have reputations that stretch to higher levels for loan moves etc. Most lads released from us end up out the game professionally
If you go to Bishop Burton on a Saturday morning it is staggering how many kids of all age groups are there. If you go to grass roots matches on a Sunday same applies. I have 2 family members who run junior teams and City scouts are constantly in touch . The talent is there.Sometimes it’s the parents who CBA
