It turned Into a weird slanging match with offers of meet ups, a bizarre end to what was a decent thread with some good opinions hidden between the rubbish
As an aside. I am in Sheffield at the minute. Having a jar with a couple of blades fans. Talking footy. They arent that enamoured with Diaz coming back. They do want Cannon though. They are decent lads. Reckon if they finish above us they will be top 2.
Hope it’s right re Cannon. £10m FFS, he’s not that good. Everton couldn’t wait to dump him, LCFC who are sh7te don’t want him, and he’s hardly looked the part at Stoke. Think we’ve had a lucky escape with him. Time to move on for good. Bart PS I’d have been gutted if we’d spent that much on him, there’s got to be better out there for that money!
I think we can spend that money better elsewhere too but I also reckon he’ll be a good fit for them. He’ll score 10+ goals from now til the end of the season. I’d like another striker through the door but realistically we won’t drop Isidor so we don’t need such an expensive option to rotate. Winger and versatile full back more essential
I do reserve the might to be a little worried about the connotations of not being promoted mind, part of building the squad we have means there'll be inevitable interest and departures and it's a big ask to find a balance, get it right and push on. Mind said worries are disproportionally exaggerated due to the potential precipice that we find ourselves on.
Maybe controversial (and I would like a striker in) but once Mundle is back I think Mayenda is perfectly capable in the event of an Isidor injury - was great when he has other threats alongside him to play through and play off. Totally agree that if we were spending ~ 15m, would rather some of that was spent on strengthening the other weaknesses as well as a striker and not just all on a 2nd choice striker. There is however the whole argument of strikers costing more and it being hard to get a goal scorer in that range we've previously shopped in of <£4m.
boring, expensive and non-imaginative recruitment for me. would of took one of them but not for the price that’s been pushed out, will go up and stink the premier league out and then end up on loan to yet another championship club. I’m glad we’ve moved away from that, could be an expensive lesson.
I’d like to hear what people have to say if Sheff United do in fact get promoted to the PL They’ve recruited really well for the level they’re currently at. Some seem to forget they’ll be signing players if promoted too…
If they go up, they’ll go back down. The gulf in class between the EFL and the PL is only getting bigger.
It just went on this bizarre tangent. Haven't seen offers of meet ups for a while and not really sure how it happened. Was all calm then boom offers of meet ups
I think credit to them. Different model to ours it seems, although I think they have a lot of upside value in their squad too. I might be in the minority but Wilder is a good coach. He will know how to manage these next 20 games or so. He has handled the premier league before too, as a trailblazer. Whether he can do it again is up for debate, maybe he doesnt have the innovation this time around.
As the new online safety deadline approaches it'll get worse ... ... old grudges will come to the fore and people will try to get their final digs in.
The concern there is the complaint procedure forums will need. Can easily see how people with a grudge will abuse it just to cause the site trouble
Sheff Utd have a different approach to us but they’re also empowered with parachute payments not just this year but for the next 2 years. They can “afford” a more “ambitious” approach. We don’t have that luxury so have to find the right balance. Which I personally think we’ve done well.
