That's incredibly disappointing. I don't see much point in the move without some sort of option clause.

I wonder if the person who thought it was a good idea to sign Giles is still at the club

    Yeah Acun still owns us..

In fairness when we were linked and then loaned him I and I'm sure plenty of others thought it was a brilliant piece of business as he came with quite a pedigree.

To be fair I think the squad is in such a state now we just need to get to the summer (again!) and reassess.

Agreed. It might be disappointing to Syd, but there's still plenty of point to it.

People often post negatively about free agent signings, you generally get a lot of 'there's a reason they're free agents' type comments.

But it occurred to me watching the game on Sunday, that Alzate and Pedro are among our best players and both were free agent signings.

Unlikely, he wasn't a free agent.

we got rid - he's at Strasbourg

Liam Rosenior has hailed Ryan Giles as one of the best in the league after beating off strong competition to sign the 24-year-old left-back from Luton Town.

City snapped up Giles ahead of a host of other Championship interest and have brought the defender in on loan with a view to making it permanent in the summer for a fee believed to be in the region of £4m.

The former Middlesbrough loan star notched 11 Championship assists for the Teessiders in their run to the play-off semi-final last season, and has more than a century of appearances in the second-tier.

Rosenior has tracked Giles for a period of time and made him one of his top January targets after seeing Ruben Vinagre recalled by Sporting Lisbon and then moving onto Italian side Hellas Verona.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Ryan is joining the club and that he’s decided to come here. He’s a top full-back at this level and we want to improve and develop him with us," said the Tigers boss after his move from Kenilworth Road was confirmed.

“He’s going to make a huge difference to our team, give us balance and a real attacking threat on the left side of the pitch. He has played a lot of Championship games, brings experience of promotion pushes, fits into our style of play and has outstanding athletic ability and technical quality in the final third. I like attacking full-backs and Ryan is one of the best in the league.”

I thought Giles was pants as early as that game at Elland Road in April last season. I didn't want us to sign him permanently. Clearly it was an obligation, not an option, as it was evident all summer he didn't want to be here and even Kesler made a statement to Mike White about Giles needing to respect the club for spending so much money on him, implying that Giles was being petulant and moody about being here.

No option but you’d imagine if Leeds get promoted he would be surplus to requirements there.

That is dramatic, but you can see why people would speculate. His recent trajectory makes no sense. He's been less and less involved and when he has played he's struggled more and more to have any impact on games. But his fitness record is good and his work rate is very good, so it's not like he's one of these who can't be arsed or can't cope physically. He's got everything needed to succeed and he should be one of our best players. There has to be something going on with him lately.
