Was injured against Blackburn. Jacob probably the better defender of the 2 so made sense against Leeds. I’d want Giles back in for the Millwall and QPR games

He gets too much stick imo. Yes we overpaid and yes he isn’t worth 30k a week, but he’s still the best left back at the club. He’s hardly down tools either, I’d say he still puts a shift in whenever he actually gets on the pitch.

I think he's been at about 80% throughout his time here and always wanted to go to Boro, but the fee we were obliged to pay Luton has caused the problem.

So you're suggesting we're planning to keep Jacob, Giles and strengthen LB too, when the manager wants to work with a small squad and has brought Jacob back into the fold ahead of Giles?

I'm not saying they'll find a way to make it happen, but I think if they can, they will.

I'm saying that until recently the plan was for Jacob to go, but that might have changed given the improvement in Jacob and the crappiness of Giles becoming apparent to Selles.

It's all well and good having a small squad, but that small squad has to be packed with quality and I'm not sure that at the moment we have that luxury. Getting rid of Bedia, Mehlem, Jarvis, Giles and Burns is a good start though.

I’m not sure how that works toast, if we get rid of Jacob’s and bring another lb to be first choice. Is he going to ask for more money than Giles?
He could and should if he’s first choice shouldn’t he?
We could be paying 70k a week for 2 left backs, then the inigma that is James furlong rocks up. Possibly 75-80k per week on 3 left backs :)

But if Giles goes in lieu of a winger, then the winger funds can go towards a left back.

Again, it would be a complex deal and it may not happen, but I think we'd be open to it.

And I just don't get the selection decision now Giles is back fit if we were planning on him being our starting LB. It's not like he was out for ages and struggling to be match fit.

They're going for championship experience to get us out of the mess.

Crooks and Geldhart would be solid additions for me.
I guess one worry
Is long term

Obviously right now we need to stay up at all costs
But we dont want to end up with loads of older average players on the wage bill

Besides, we don't have the pick of the PL loans this season due to almost everyone else being better placed.
Crooks is probably the only one I’m okay with, the rest very uninspiring so far

Depends which Geldhart we get - the Wigan/Sunderland one or Leeds one. No other names are really confirmed yet, but Porteus or Boly would probably strengthen us at CB if anything comes from that interest.

Don't think the winger we are currently talking to is Jones, though we are supposedly after 2 by close of window.

Say if we keep our core team together and get the injured wingers back next year with players like Crooks and some other champ experience you have a solid foundation to go off.

We got lucky last year that the team we had came together in a way with the loanees and Jaden coming into their own. I know they’d all had prior experience but none had set the world alight and they did here.

Get a solid squad with experience and add some quality in certain areas and you suddenly find yourself pushing top 6 again
